In just a few months, Trump may join the exclusive club of two-time presidential losers. Of course, it is still too early to make any real prediction about November. But the sharp reversal in Trump’s electoral fortunes raises an obvious question worth thinking about now: If Trump loses, and perhaps especially if he loses badly, what comes next for the Republican Party? One of the defining attributes of his leadership of the Republican Party is the extent to which he has so thoroughly reshaped Republican identity while leading Republican politicians to a string of national election defeats. Following Trump’s surprise win in 2016, Republicans either lost or underperformed in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Donald Trump has been using an ugly word to describe Vice President Kamala Harris. For example, Elon Musk, in a post on X, declared “Kamala is quite literally a communist,” demonstrating, among other things, that he quite literally doesn’t know the meaning of “literally.”Now, Harris obviously isn’t a communist. So why does Trump say that she is? Well, red-baiting, like race-baiting — which Trump also does when it comes to Harris — is very much part of the American political tradition. Only in an era when everything gets politicized would a campaign come out aggressively against boisterous laughter. Laughter transcends party politics, and it’s helped the messaging of everyone from Ronald Reagan to John F. Kennedy.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, retweeted a parody Kamala Harris campaign ad Friday without labeling it as misleading, an apparent violation of his own platform's rules. Portions of video footage in the altered content — such as Harris speaking to crowds, and general videos of her supporters — were used in a recent Harris' campaign video on YouTube. In the original video, Harris narrates, telling viewers, "In this election, we each face a question: what kind of country do we want to live in?" The altered video reposted by Musk does not include Beyonce. This is not the first time altered voice content has appeared during this presidential campaign.
