Investors, already jittery over Lula's spending plans, are eager to learn who will be Brazil's next finance minister. Lula is not expected to announce any of his ministers until early December after he returns from Egypt and Portugal trips. Markets tumbled in Brazil last week on concerns that Lula was delaying the naming of his finance minister and disregarding fiscal discipline as he studied ways to bypass the budget spending ceiling. Haddad failed in his bid to be Sao Paulo governor in last month's election, losing out to Bolsonaro's pick for the job.

Google searches for excuses to miss work hit over 2.2 million in 2022, up from just 112,400 in 2020. Some of the top search terms in 2022 were "calling in sick" and "best excuses to miss work." In 2022, there were 2,230,240 Google searches in the US for excuses to miss work, according to data analyzed by recruitment company Frank Recruitment Group. That's a massive 1884% spike from just two years ago in 2020, which saw 112,400 Google searches for excuses to miss work. In 2018, the researchers saw 305,590 searches, with "good excuses to miss work" as the top search term.

Fueled by a post-lockdown buying frenzy, the average UK house price hit a record £275,000 ($315,474) in December, a £27,000 increase on the previous year’s high. UK mortgage rates have been ticking upwards since spring, in line with rising interest rates. UK house prices fell 0.9% between September and October, the first decline in 15 months, according to data from Nationwide.
