A key question after an assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump a week ago is why the Secret Service excluded from its secured zone a nearby warehouse the gunman used for his assault. But another possible flaw in the Secret Service’s plans for the campaign rally at the farm show grounds in Butler, Pa., is emerging. The protection agency expected the sizable contingent of officers from local law enforcement agencies to contain any threats outside of the secured zone but assigned almost all those officers to work inside it, according to numerous interviews with local law enforcement and municipal officials. More specifically, the local law enforcement officials say that none of them were assigned to safeguard the complex of warehouses just north of the farm show grounds. The gunman was able to use the roof of the warehouse closest to the stage — about 450 feet from the podium — from which to shoot.

I haven't traveled alone a lot — this was probably my second flight alone. There was a creator campaign going on, and their head office is in Mumbai, so I traveled from Delhi for that. Through overhearing cops, I figured out there was a tissue found in the plane that had "Bomb on flight" written on it. The police asked us to write "Bomb on flight" in our own handwriting with our seat number. Then they took us all in two different sections to write "Bomb on flight," I think 36 times — dividing your tissue into four and writing on alternate sides.

The uproar over the Trump assassination attempt may pause the intraparty rebellion against Biden for now, especially as he assumes his role as the leader of a nation in sudden crisis. In a nation that was already deeply divided, the core vote for both Trump and Biden was probably locked in. There can be no justification for an assassination attempt on a candidate — an assault on democracy. Many Republican politicians issued calls for calm and an easing of political rhetoric after the shooting — as did Democrats. And Johnson accompanied his calls for calm by implying that Democrats — in advancing their arguments against Trump — had somehow abetted the assassination attempt.

CNN —DeAsia Harmon’s husband was a “beautiful person” and a “wonderful father,” she told CNN’s Victor Blackwell in an interview Saturday morning. But her husband, D’Vontaye Mitchell, will never see his children again: The 43-year-old died on June 30 after he was pinned down by hotel security guards outside a Hyatt Regency hotel in Milwaukee in an incident partially captured on video. “I’m broken, empty, honestly.”Police have referred four charges of felony murder in Mitchell’s death to the district attorney’s office, Milwaukee Police told CNN in a statement Friday. It’s unclear how many employees were fired and if they include the security guards seen pinning Mitchell down. Security guards and others then pinned Mitchell to the ground.
