CNN —Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Tyler, Texas. Mahomes Sr., 53, was arrested by the Tyler Police Department and released Sunday on a $10,000 surety bond, according to jail records. Mahomes Sr. told CNN on Thursday he planned to be at the game in Las Vegas to watch his son. CNN —Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope have detected water molecules in the atmosphere of a small, blazing-hot exoplanet 97 light-years from Earth. The planet, named GJ 9827d, is about twice Earth’s diameter, and it’s the smallest exoplanet found to have water vapor in its atmosphere, according to a new study. Starlight filtering through the planet’s atmosphere helped astronomers measure the signature of water molecules. It’s possible that the planet is a mini-Neptune with a hydrogen-rich atmosphere that contains water vapor. Or astronomers suspect that GJ 9827d could be a warmer version of Jupiter’s icy moon Europa, which contains an ocean beneath a thick, icy crust.

Elsewhere, freezing rain, sleet and high wind gusts later Sunday would make traveling in parts of Kansas and Oklahoma particularly treacherous, the National Weather Service said. “With no additional replenishment of arctic air from Canada, a steady warm-up is in store for the mid-section of the country,” the weather service said. Trees and power lines already coated with ice could topple if they get more, the National Weather Service warned. “Stay safe out there over the next several days as our region tries to thaw out,” the weather service said.

Read previewAs of Wednesday, "No Labels" has officially been recognized as a political party in Kansas, further paving the way for a candidate to make a third-party presidential run this cycle. With its recognition in Kansas, the No Labels party will now be on the ballots of at least 12 states, though the party's yet to endorse a candidate publicly. In a report published Thursday by the Allbritton Journalism Institute's "News of the United States," No Labels leader and former Democratic Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon suggested that while Republican Trump supporters attacked the Capitol in 2021, "Democrats are contributing" to the country's worsening political rhetoric.

Ron DeSantis, who had staked his campaign on a strong showing in Iowa, came in at a distant second, with 21.2% of the vote. “You helped us get a ticket pushed out of the Hawkeye State,” DeSantis told supporters in Iowa Monday night. And about two-thirds – 66% – of the GOP Iowa voters believe President Joe Biden did not legitimately win the presidency in 2020. The state also prides itself on giving a boost to lesser-known contenders who make the effort to meet one-on-one with Hawkeye State voters. It’s not clear how long DeSantis – who had hoped to win Iowa outright and gain momentum in the race – would be able to continue.
