USADA and UFC to part ways amid McGregor dispute
  + stars: | 2023-10-12 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
"The relationship between USADA and UFC became untenable given the statements made by UFC leaders and others questioning USADA's principled stance that McGregor not be allowed to fight without being in the testing pool for at least six months," USADA CEO Travis Tygart said in a release. The UFC and McGregor did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The USADA said meetings over a contract renewal broke down on Monday when, after a productive meeting in May, the UFC did an "about-face" and informed the agency it was going in a different direction. "We are disappointed for UFC athletes, who are independent contractors who rely on our independent, gold-standard global program to protect their rights to a clean, safe, and fair octagon," Tygart said. CNN —The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) is set to split with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) following a dispute involving Conor McGregor. Last week, McGregor said on X, formerly Twitter, that he has been re-entered to the testing pool, while UFC president Dana White said that the relevant paperwork had been submitted to USADA. The UFC has been partnered with USADA since 2015, and in that time the anti-doping body has conducted more than 27,000 tests. As he targets a return to the octagon next year, McGregor has been linked with a fight against American Michael Chandler. “The fight is not booked for a date, the fight is not booked for a venue, but the fight is booked between Chandler and Conor.

Since 1949, all female recruits have gone through boot camp at the South Carolina base; the 4th Battalion was created in 1986 as the women's unit. Inside the pool, men and women struggle side by side, jumping off a platform and swimming to the other end. Some measure of all-male companies would be necessary no matter what because there just are not enough female recruits to go around. The split, she said, divided them into “male Marines” and “female Marines,” and that shaped the men’s view of the women and made it more difficult for them to work together as they moved along. Young female recruits, who usually come from high schools where there is little separation, acknowledge the differences but voice no complaints.

The long-hyped possibility of a cage match between tech titans Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk appears to be no more, after Zuckerberg dismissed Musk for allegedly delaying their anticipated showdown in the ring. But in his latest comments on the matter, Zuckerberg said that while he was ready to fight, Musk kept coming up with reasons he couldn't. Musk previously claimed he may need surgery before fighting his rival. Shortly after, in responding to an X user who joked about Zuckerberg being trained in the Brazilian combat sport of jiujitsu, Musk responded, "I'm up for a cage match if he is lol." Elon Musk is proposing a "dick measuring contest." It's unclear what sparked the sudden interest on Musk's part in whipping out a ruler to quash his Zuckerberg beef. But the cage match Musk suggested in June also started out as a joke — at least until Zuckerberg took the bait and asked Musk to send over the location for fight night. Central banks to Wall Street: More pain is coming

New York CNN —Market euphoria in early June, spurred on by a pause in interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve, is well behind us now. What’s happening: It’s been just over a week since the Federal Reserve paused its 14-month regimen of interest rate hikes to fight inflation. The Bank of England, meanwhile, surprised investors by raising interest rates in the UK by an outsized half of a percentage point. Central banks had been making smaller interest rate moves as inflation began to ease off of recent highs. Elsewhere in Europe, central banks in Norway and Switzerland also hiked rates to decade-high levels on Thursday.
