"This is a very direct confrontation with the Court," Rosenblum wrote at the end of June on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. It was because of the court, Biden made clear, that Americans would not receive the relief his administration had sought to provide them. Before Roosevelt, conflict between the Supreme Court and the president was not taboo, and Supreme Court justices were often understood to be important ordinary political figures. REUTERS/Anushree Fadnavis/File PhotoNEW DELHI, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Deloitte has decided to resign as auditor of India's Adani Ports (APSE.NS) amid concerns over certain transactions flagged in a report by Hindenburg, which the company did not wish to independently look into, a source with direct knowledge said. Deloitte in May had pointed to certain transactions flagged by the U.S. short-seller in its report and gave only a qualified opinion, which indicates concerns by a company's auditor. Deloitte's resignation comes after it asked Adani Ports to conduct an independent inquiry on related party transactions flagged by Hindenburg, to which the company did not agree, the source said. Deloitte and Adani Ports did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comments. Deloitte's decision to quit as Adani Ports' auditor might come as soon as Monday, the source added.

Likely corporate dollar inflows related to an Indian conglomerate was the major driver for the rupee's move, traders and analysts said. There are possibilities of central bank intervention given that it has previously bought dollars in the 81.85-81.90 range, said Dilip Parmar, research analyst at HDFC Securities. The appreciation in the rupee is also on the moderate side given the rise in the dollar index, Parmar said. The dollar inflows into equities have also been helping the rupee, traders added. The dollar index , on the other hand, has recovered from 15-month lows hit last week and was up 0.2% on Monday.

BENGALURU, July 20 (Reuters) - Infosys (INFY.NS), India's second-largest IT services firm by revenue, halved its full-year revenue forecast on Thursday and posted a first-quarter profit that missed estimates as clients cut back spending in a cloudy economic environment. Infosys' U.S.-listed shares fell nearly 7% in pre-market trading after the company cut its full-year revenue growth of 1%-3.5% on a constant currency basis from 4%-7% previously. There are some discretionary spending cuts from clients in the short-term and overall decision-making has slowed down, CEO Salil Parekh said in a media conference. Consolidated net profit rose 10.9% to 59.45 billion rupees ($725.5 million) in the three months to June 30, missing analysts' view of 61.41 billion rupees as per Refinitiv IBES. Businesses are cutting back spending on discretionary IT projects amid steep inflation that stoked interest rates.

The contract, to help Nest transform its administration services, if extended to the entirety of its 18-year tenure would be worth 1.5 billion pounds, TCS said in a statement. The deal comes at a time when Indian IT services companies are facing demand challenges in their key markets, the United States and Europe, where clients have cut spends amid worries about recession. TCS and Nest have been working together since 2011. Last week, TCS mutually terminated a $2 billion contract with insurance provider Transamerica, citing reasons that include a challenging macro environment.

NAIROBI, June 2 (Reuters) - Kenya's central bank does not consider the issuance of a digital currency a "compelling priority" but it will continue monitoring developments in the area to help future decisions on issuance, it said on Friday. The bank invited views from the public on the potential introduction of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in February last year, in a shift from its original opposition to crypto assets, but it has decided not to issue any. "Implementation of a CBDC in Kenya may not be a compelling priority in the short to medium term." The East African nation is renowned for the wide usage of mobile money payments. MUMBAI, June 1 (Reuters) - The Indian rupee saw its best single-day gain in two months on Thursday, and also rose to a two-week high during the session, following strong domestic growth data, which prompted traders to square off long dollar positions. On Thursday, the rupee rose 0.38%, to mark its best day since April 5. Consistent flows into equities coupled with strong economic data is supporting the rupee, said Dilip Parmar, a research analyst at HDFC Securities. Adding to strong growth numbers, India's factory output expanded at the quickest pace since October 2020 in May, thanks to strong demand and output, a private survey showed. The string of positives for the rupee has prompted USD/INR long positions to lose patience, a sales person at a private bank said.

ADDIS ABABA, May 3 (Reuters) - Ethiopia will issue up to five banking licenses to foreign investors in the next five years, part of plans to open up the financial services sector to foreign competition, a senior central bank official said on Wednesday. "We will give three to five licenses within five years," vice governor of the central bank Solomon Desta told reporters. Ethiopia's banking industry is dominated by state-owned Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, and the sector has 29 players, all of them locally owned. Desta said foreign investors would have different options to enter the industry, including forming joint ventures with domestic players, or establishing local subsidiaries. Foreign investors have long eyed sectors including banking, telecoms, transportation and aviation in Ethiopia, a country of more than 100 million people and one of the biggest economies in Sub-Saharan Africa.
