Traders work at the post where GameStop is traded on the floor at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., June 12, 2024. GameStop's annual shareholder meeting was disrupted by computer problems Thursday, as servers crashed under overwhelming interest in the stream, a customer service representative for the company hosting the stream told CNBC. According to a YouTube stream from an unaffiliated user purporting to reproduce the feed, the annual meeting was brought to order at 11:48 a.m. The rep said Computer Share's servers appeared to be unable to handle the amount of traffic the meeting had received and weren't accustomed to the volume of accounts. They added that Computer Share's tech team was working to solve the issue and advised interested parties to attempt to log in "every 5 to 10 minutes."

ETThe Supreme Court on Thursday upheld access to a widely available abortion pill, rejecting a bid from a group of anti-abortion organizations and doctors to unravel the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the pill. In a unanimous decision, written by Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, the court held that the plaintiffs lacked standing to challenge the F.D.A.’s actions. The case involved easier access: The challenge before the court centered on changes the F.D.A. The safety of the pill: The groups — citing five studies, including two that were later retracted — questioned the safety of mifepristone, which was approved by the F.D.A. Their claim contradicted a large scientific record on the safety of mifepristone and another abortion medication, misoprostol.

Broadcom could be the next stock to reach a trillion-dollar market cap, Bank of America said. AdvertisementChip maker Broadcom looks like a contender to be the next member of the stock market's trillion-dollar club, Bank of America said Thursday. Bank of America thinks Broadcom has even greater potential even after its big quarterly report. Upside drivers will be semiconductor sales and Broadcom's VMWare, a software firm it acquired last year. AdvertisementIf Bank of America's price target pans out, that would place Broadcom among an exclusive group of stocks with trillion-dollar market capitalization.

Microsoft will evaluate its employees' cybersecurity contributions in reviews that will factor into their compensation, Brad Smith, the company's vice chair and president, said ahead of a Thursday U.S. House committee hearing on the software maker's security practices. The changes represent part of Microsoft's efforts to address concerns about how much it's doing to protect its clients' data. For the current fiscal year, these high-ranking executives might see cybersecurity-related impacts reflected in their pay. "The Board also decided that for the current fiscal year, which ends on June 30, the Compensation Committee will consider explicitly each SLT member's cybersecurity performance when it makes its annual assessment of the executive's performance," Smith wrote. The loan is expected to be delivered by the end of 2024, which would ensure the money would get to Ukraine before a potential change in US presidents. “This loan will mostly be provided by the United States and will be supplemented by money from Europe,” an Élysée source told journalists at a briefing. “Countries are still discussing how to partition the cost if the profits from Russian assets are not sufficient to cover the need,” the French source added. G7 countries began brainstorming ways to identify longer-term sources of funding for Ukraine in late 2023, as lawmakers delayed in greenlighting the White House’s funding request. The World Bank estimates that Ukraine would need more than $500 billion to rebuild, a figure that climbs each day the war continues.

The 2-year Treasury yield was last at 4.8444% after rising by around one basis point. U.S. Treasury yields were little changed on Wednesday as investors awaited the latest Federal Reserve interest rate decision and policy guidance, and looked to key inflation data. Policymakers have frequently said that they would not cut interest rates until they are confident that inflation is sustainably toward this target. The Fed is expected to keep interest rates unchanged on Wednesday as its latest meeting concludes. But investors will be closely watching the central bank's guidance and the post-meeting press conference for fresh clues about what the path ahead for interest rates could look like.

Treasury yield fall as Fed meeting kicks off

U.S. Treasury yields fell Tuesday as the Federal Reserve meeting is set to begin, with investors awaiting the central bank's monetary policy decision and key economic data. The June Federal Reserve meeting is set to begin Tuesday, before concluding with the central bank's latest interest rate decision and policy guidance on Wednesday. The Fed is widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged this month, with the first rate cut being priced in for later this year. Many investors will be hoping for the data to show that the economy is cooling, as this could suggest the Fed will cut interest rates sooner. Investors will therefore also be closely following economic projections released by the Fed on Wednesday alongside its interest rate decision.
