Another Republican presidential candidate has dropped out of the crowded 2024 field. He said the need to rally around one candidate to defeat former President Donald Trump had become increasingly clear. The GOP front-runner remains hugely popular in the Republican Party, despite making history as the first president to be impeached twice and inciting the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021. The Florida governor officially launched his 2024 presidential campaign on May 24 in a glitch-marred Twitter announcement, casting himself as Trump’s only legitimate Republican rival. The wealthy biotech entrepreneur and author of “Woke, Inc.” kicked off his presidential campaign on Feb. 21 with a video and op-ed.

The ex-president dived into the mayhem following the ouster of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, characteristically seeking to cast himself as kingmaker and to steal the spotlight for himself. Then Trump teased the possibility that he could even step in as speaker himself on an interim basis. But the ex-president’s biggest bombshell was still to come – shortly after midnight, he endorsed Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan for the job. Jordan, who is running against Republican House Majority leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana for the top job, would likely augur a new period of fierce combat with the White House if he wins the speakership. He has opposed the US lifeline of arms and ammunition to Ukraine, and a Republican House majority led by Jordan would likely increase the chances of a government shutdown next month in a showdown over spending with Democrats.

But there are questions about whether a pandemic that many Americans see as long over will resonate with the electorate in 2024. Now, a recent resurgence of Covid-19 cases is giving Mr. DeSantis a chance to press the argument. Mr. DeSantis and other Republicans have seized on that as evidence that the Covid-19 debate, which they frame as a civil rights battle, is far from over. Mr. DeSantis emphasized that point during his swing through Iowa on Saturday. He has appeared repeatedly this past week on Fox News and other conservative media outlets lauding his pandemic policies, and has done interviews with local news media outlets in Iowa and New Hampshire.

On the map, I believe General’s Store is the building at the bottom and labeled S for store. The letter writer said a young white man in a general store had ordered the woman to put down a can of oil she was examining. High prices for Australia’s commodity exports have also delivered a windfall to mining profits, and thus tax receipts, though prices are now well off their peaks. The government also raised its long-term commodity price assumptions in the budget, which is expected to contribute billions of dollars in extra revenues. Walker believed the revised commodity price projections were still conservative.
