Joseph Prezioso | Afp | Getty ImagesThe world's ocean temperatures have climbed to their hottest level on record, according to data from the European Union's climate monitor, prompting scientists to warn of immediate and wide-ranging consequences for the planet. The surface temperature of the world's oceans would typically be expected to reach their highest in March rather than in August, sparking alarm among climate scientists. "The recent ocean warming is genuinely concerning," said Rowan Sutton, professor of climate science at the University of Reading. Sutton said that the latest sea surface temperature data showed that "we may be experiencing not just a record-breaking extreme event but a record-shattering one." The ocean heat record comes as part of a recent trend of extreme heat stretching across the globe, with this July poised to be recognized as the hottest month in history.

“An increase in metabolic rates means that sharks are using more energy to just be alive and swim,” Di Santo told CNN. Some fish species are not able to find new, suitable habitats, which causes a decline in their population. “It is important to consider that sharks are very much tuned in the behavior of their prey,” Di Santo said. “These small-scale movements can be just as crucial for their survival as poleward relocations,” Di Santo said. Zidowitz said progress on conservation to protect shark species is “too slow to keep pace” with the numerous threats they face, yet she remains hopeful.

All those candidates, however, then proceeded to lose the New Hampshire primary and the party nomination. Only 26% of New Hampshire Republican primary voters identified the same way. Trump has also been weaker among demographic groups who make up a larger share of the New Hampshire Republican electorate. Although the 2016 Iowa entrance poll did not ask about income, the 2020 general election exit poll did. (Note: Household and family income are somewhat different measures, but I’m merely demonstrating that New Hampshire Republicans are, on the whole, wealthier than Iowa Republicans.)

A man who pinned a DC Police officer to a Capitol door on January 6 was sentenced to over 7 years in prison. "Your actions are some of the most egregious crimes that were committed on that dark day," said the judge. "Your actions are some of the most egregious crimes that were committed on that dark day," the judge told McCaughey. Federal prosecutors had sought a sentence of 15 years and eight months, which would have been the longest sentence given to any Capitol riot defendant. "I do not foresee that changing anytime soon," he told the judge, calling McCaughey a "foot solider" in the push to overturn the election.
But some travelers aren't thrilled about what it takes to pull off a trip to Walt Disney World these days. He said he goes to Disney World about "once a month." They will leave thinking food at Disney World is a "cheeseburger and a hot dog … which could not be farther from the truth," he said. Walt Disney World comprises four theme parks, two water parks and dozens of themed hotels, plus a shopping and entertainment area called Disney Springs. He called Disney World an "amazing spa destination" and said Disney Springs, formerly known as Downtown Disney, has shopping, live music and fantastic restaurants.
Right now, the chief economist at the Institute of International Finance, Robin Brooks, is watching weakening commodity prices. Specifically, Brooks pointed out that oil and copper prices have slumped roughly 6% each since mid-January, despite China's easing of zero-COVID policies. "Whatever is going on in China, there's no sign that the end of zero-COVID is boosting global growth, based on commodity prices," Brooks said in a tweet. "Oil prices never went up and copper prices are falling after the initial China reopening excitement fades." He pointed to the sharp change in oil prices last week as an example of shallower liquidity.

Warehouse workers pick items up, sort them and put them down millions of times a day. This year, state laws could have the greatest implications for climate action since state officials can accelerate their own climate agendas even in a divided Congress, advocates say. Joseph Prezioso | AFP | Getty ImagesClimate action could also move forward in Maryland and Minnesota after environmental victories in those two gubernatorial races. Ahmad Gharabli | AFP | Getty ImagesThe climate victories in gubernatorial races have notable implications for national and local climate policies, advocates say, especially with respect to deploying funding from Biden's climate legislation. Still, climate groups are concerned for provisions within the climate bill if Republicans do seize control of one or both chambers of Congress. Biden, who will attend the summit on Friday, said he is eager to work with congressional Republicans after the midterm elections but emphasized he would not compromise his climate agenda.
Two holders of Disney World annual passes have sued Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Disney changed the park entry system at Disney World in Florida to control capacity at the start of the pandemic. A tourist looks at a park map during the Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot at Walt Disney World in Orange County, Florida on May 30, 2022. "Disney's conduct is a predatory business practice, aimed at exploiting the customers who support it the most, its annual pass holders," it adds. Disney scrapped the Platinum Plus, Platinum, Gold, and Silver Passes in September 2021, replacing them with four new tiers of passes.

“There are definitely manufacturers stepping back without full confidence there will be a government or any market for Covid tests,” said Aspinall. Companies making Covid tests, equipment and supplies have also seen a hefty drop in Covid-related sales. The Biden administration had aimed to provide some stability to the Covid testing market by purchasing a steady supply of Covid tests to send to Americans for free. But Congress has failed to pass a Covid spending package that included $2 billion for testing, and last month the White House said it was ending its free Covid testing program. Abbott saw its Covid testing revenue decline by 29% in the most recent quarter, though its sales nearly doubled over the past year.
