We are drawn to stories of individuals who not only embody the pursuit of excellence, but also have humility. Perhaps the most iconic image from these Games occurred after one of the few gymnastics events she didn’t completely dominate, the individual floor competition. In the stands, supporting and helping to coach him, was Renaud Lavillenie, the Frenchman whose world record Duplantis first broke in 2020. Then there was the American sprinter Noah Lyles, who earned the title of world’s fastest man by winning gold in the 100-meter dash. The mountain range is home to some of the most coveted marble in the world, and it's dotted with marble quarries. Joey Hadden/Business InsiderFor my port stop in Marina di Carrara, I booked an excursion with Carrara Marble Tour to see the mountain range lined with marble quarries up close. During the tour, I learned that Carrara is among the most coveted marble in the world, and the guide explained exactly why. So it's easier to work with, but it's too fragile. The mountain range also has preservation methods in place limiting the amount of marble that can be taken from it, he added.

It's a troubling thought, to be sure, but a longer workweek is already a reality for some workers. AdvertisementIt's the kind of thing that could make an employer less inclined to try something new — like a four-day workweek. Yet even without lackluster sales, Cappelli said, the four-day workweek was already unlikely to be widely adopted in the US. But, at the same time, Cappelli also doesn't think companies will push workers to come in on a sixth day. If companies use economic worries to reverse course on efforts like flexible work arrangements or to conduct layoffs, they put their own well-being at risk.

The head of a Senate panel investigating Clarence Thomas said Monday that the Supreme Court justice had failed to disclose additional private jet travel. The letter, which also cited reports of Thomas’ travel to Greece, the Caribbean, Russia and the Baltics, is the latest in a string of allegations from Senate Democrats about undisclosed travel by Thomas. In a statement Monday, Crow's office accused Wyden of "abusing" his panel's power in what it called a political campaign against the Supreme Court. An attorney for Thomas and a spokesperson for the Supreme Court did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday. The judiciary has updated its disclosure rules to make it clear that private jet travel has to be reported.

After failing on his first two attempts at the world record, Duplantis crept over the bar on his third, springing to his feet and running to the stands to embrace his family. I just broke a world record at the Olympics, biggest possible stage for a pole vaulter. After clearing 6.10m on his first attempt, taking the Olympic record from Brazil’s Thiago Braz, Duplantis had the stadium in his thrall with a shot at the world record. Exceptions to the changes, which came into force Thursday, include children under 2 years of age, and visiting students and educational trips. Tourists and guides who break the 25-person limit or use loudspeakers will face fines of approximately $50-$100. Genetic detective workDuring the two earlier waves of interbreeding, the Neanderthal population absorbed human genes and the offspring stayed within Neanderthal groups, according to the new study. CNN —It was one of the more memorable moments of arguably the most unique opening ceremony in history, but one that has sparked controversy around the world. The scene in question has been described by some critics as a parody of “The Last Supper” and one which featured drag artists and multiple dancers.
