DuPont preannounced disappointing earnings results before the opening bell Wednesday, sending the stock down roughly 13%. Operating fourth-quarter EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) is expected to be about $715 million, operating cash flow about $640 million, and adjusted free cash flow is expected to be about $500 million. That compares to estimates, according to FactSet, of $746 million, $573 million and $447 million, respectively. These forecasts represent across-the-board misses versus Street expectations for sales of $3.04 billion, operating EBITDA of $751 million, and earnings of 88 cents per share. Given the slower recovery and impact on 2024 earnings, we are reducing our DuPont price target to $78 per share from $85.

HOUSTON (AP) — Hard-throwing reliever Josh Hader and the Houston Astros finalized a $95 million, five-year contract on Monday. Hader will get a $19 million salary in each of the next five seasons, none of it deferred. He gets a full no-trade provision and would receive a $1 million bonus for winning the Mariano Rivera/Trevor Hoffman Reliever of the Year Award. Houston reached the agreement three days after announcing reliever Kendall Graveman will miss the season after right shoulder surgery. Because Hader turned down a qualifying offer, San Diego will receive an extra pick in next July’s amateur draft.

The latest financial results and commentary from the world's biggest third-party chipmaker gave a big boost Thursday to Apple and semiconductor stocks, including artificial intelligence leader Nvidia . Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company , whose customers include the likes of Apple, Nvidia and fellow Club stock Broadcom , said its fourth-quarter revenue from smartphone chips grew a better-than-expected 27% on a quarterly basis. "Let's not overthink it: Apple and Nvidia are the two that are most obvious" beneficiaries from TSMC's results, Jim Cramer said Thursday. Previously, TSMC had said AI chips were on track to become a "low teens" percentage of its revenue. TSMC's results and guidance Thursday offer so-called "read-throughs" on its customers, many of which are Club stocks such as Apple, Nvidia and Broadcom.

Shortly after the opening bell, we will exit our position in Humana , selling 85 shares at roughly $388. Following the trade, Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust will no longer own shares in the managed care provider. Humana shares are falling in the premarket on a couple of negative updates that are meaningful enough to change our investment thesis — forcing us to sell the rest of our very small position. The reason behind the shortfall was higher-than-expected Medicare Advantage medical costs, driven by greater inpatient utilization and a further increase in outpatient surgery costs. Shortly before we first bought Humana in 2022, the company announced a similar shortfall to its Medicare Advantage growth.

Nevertheless, we see attractive fundamentals in the year ahead for a host of health-care stocks, giving us the confidence to own Lilly, GE Healthcare and Danaher despite what history says about the group in presidential election years. After a strong 2022 for health care in a terrible overall market, investors last year placed a lower emphasis on the defensive characteristics of health care.

The Rangers took the 48,388 fans out of the game early with five-run innings in the second and third. Texas, which is a record 10-0 on the road in the postseason, will look to complete a perfect away run behind Eovaldi.
