North Korean troops have come under fire after joining Russia's war, Ukrainian officials said. The Pentagon says that North Korean troops engaged in combat would make them a fair target in the war. Kovalenko's statement on Monday was the first to suggest that North Korean troops were now actively fighting alongside Russian troops and against Ukraine. Last month, South Korean intelligence said that 1,500 North Korean troops had been shipped to Russia for training and likely deployment in the war. On Saturday, Ukrainian intelligence shared details of the military equipment it says Russia has issued to North Korean troops, including mortars, rifles, and machine guns.

This combination of pictures created on October 25, 2024 shows US Vice-President and Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris in Houston, Texas on October 25, 2024 and former US President Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in East Del Valle, Austin, Texas on October 25, 2024. As millions of Americans cast ballots on election day, advisors are bracing for major tax changes that could be on the horizon. Enacted by former President Donald Trump, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, or TCJA, brought sweeping changes for individuals, including lower tax brackets, higher standard deductions, a more generous child tax credit and a bigger estate and gift tax exemption, among others. Many of the individual TCJA provisions will sunset after 2025 without action from Congress, which will be a key issue for the next president, policy experts say. However, planning can be complicated with several tax provisions scheduled to sunset, experts say.

Election Day is here, and with it comes a parade of stressors. Many Americans are not only worried about the outcome, but what might happen in the aftermath, regardless of who wins. And 56% are worried that the 2024 election could be the end of democracy in the United States. With 24-hour news coverage already underway, it's nearly impossible to avoid the anxiety the day promises. In order to soothe Election Day anxiety, it's best to take a step back from social media altogether, says New York City-based psychotherapist Kathryn Smerling . Even if you end up talking about the election, you're less likely to spiral about it around others, in a public space. Go to the movie theaterA no-phone zone like a movie theater can be the perfect place to spend Election Day. Go with a friend and you two can discuss what you saw, as opposed to the election, afterwards. "This can get you out of the house and out of your ability to look every five minutes at the television or at your phone," Smerling says.

GOP senators and top aides say the race could go either way. Scott, who is a McConnell critic, has been more willing to fall in line with Trump than Cornyn or Thune over the last several years. Both Thune and Cornyn are closely politically aligned with the longtime GOP leader. Asked if he would like to get more public endorsements from GOP senators, Thune said he is not asking anyone to do that. They also point out his remarkable ascent – he defeated then-Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle in 2004 and is now on a path to possibly becoming GOP leader.

With so much at stake, CNN has identified 10 races to watch on Tuesday – grouped into buckets that nod to broader themes across the House landscape. Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger decided against seeking a fourth term, instead launching a campaign for governor in 2025. Democratic Rep. Jared Golden has crafted a moderate profile by challenging his party on issues ranging from spending to immigration. This year she faces a challenge from GOP state Rep. Gabe Evans, a fellow Mexican American and a former Army helicopter pilot and police officer. GOP Rep. Zach Nunn, an Air Force officer, was first elected in 2022 – defeating Democratic Rep. Cindy Axne by about 2,000 votes.

Scientists called Campeche an archaeological “blank spot” in the Maya Lowlands, an area spanning what is now Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala and southeastern Mexico, and which the Maya inhabited from about 1000 BC to AD 1500. Like other large capital cities from Maya sites, Valeriana had a reservoir, a ball court, temple pyramids and a broad road connecting enclosed plazas. In total, the researchers identified 6,764 structures in Valeriana and in other rural and urban settlements of varying sizes. In the north, Maya sites such as Chichén Itzá are highly visible. Morales-Aguilar’s work on Maya settlements in Guatemala aligns closely with the new findings, he told CNN in an email.

Voter turnout among this group is low — less than 8% in the 2020 presidential election, according to FVAP, compared with almost 67% overall. Overseas voters “can sway an election, especially in the swing states,” said James Lockett, chair of Democrats Abroad Hong Kong. During the 2022 midterm elections, overseas voters also made the difference in close races in Connecticut, New Hampshire and North Carolina, the DNC said. Even as Republicans raise concerns about overseas voters, their presidential nominee, former President Donald Trump, appears to be seeking their support. “You can’t treat overseas Americans as second-class citizens, and I don’t care if they are Republicans, Democrats or independents.”
