That's a promise that OpenAI will pay the legal fees of its business customers in the event they're sued for something they made using its products. "We can defend our customers and pay the costs incurred if you face legal claims around copyright," said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in his keynote speech. But OpenAI rival Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI researchers and backed by billions of dollars from investors like Google and Amazon is taking a different approach. But to the extent that liability does exist, Anthropic says it's the person using the product that bears the blame.

There are several different apps — known as "accountability" software — that allow for this sort of monitoring, including Covenant Eyes, Accountable2You, and EverAccountable. Speaker Johnson uses Covenant Eyes, and says in the unearthed clip that he has an accountability partnership with his then-17-year-old son. According to WIRED, the accountability software industry has ballooned into a "multimillion-dollar ecosystem" and includes hundreds of thousands, if not millions of users around the country.

Bank of America analysts led by head of US equity & quantitative strategy Savita Subramanian endorse a new twist on the strategy. In a recent note to clients, Subramanian identified what she calls TLCs: tax-loss candidates. "We've historically seen evidence of tax-loss selling by institutional investors in Oct. (peak outflows), and by retail investors in Dec. ahead of the Dec. 31 cut-off for individual investors," Subramanian wrote. Institutional investors must sell their losing stocks to claim the benefits of tax-loss harvesting by October 31, while retail investors have until December 31.
