The five-point advantage for captain Luke Donald’s side marks the joint-highest lead following the opening round in Ryder Cup history, equalling the records set by Europe and the US in 2004 and 1975 respectively. Team USA, without a victory on European soil in 30 years, will need a roaring response if they are to bring an end to the streak come Sunday. Since the Ryder Cup began in 1927 there have been only two tied matches. There followed a series of terrifically close matches but only in 1989 at The Belfry did one finish level at 14-14 with Europe retaining the title having led 14-10 only to lose the last four singles. In cricket I think retaining the Ashes is a big thing. You have a completely new team, for instance, at the Solheim Cup, and they tied. Perhaps the best approach is that of US Solheim Cup captain Stacy Lewis, who reviewing the draw that was an effective defeat, decided to view it as a victory anyway.

This time, Tiger Woods played caddie to his son Charlie as the 14-year-old shot the best round of his fledgling career to win his age group’s regional qualifier for the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championships. “It’s hard to think, ‘You’re tied for the lead, you have to go shoot a low round to win this thing,’” the 14-year-old Woods told tournament organizers. Focus up, this is what we’re gonna do.’”Woods helps his son decide his next shot during the tournament. CNN —Phil Mickelson has opened up about his gambling addiction, saying on Monday that it was like a “hurricane” which “caused a lot of damage” in his life. Mickelson, who has previously talked about his struggles with sports gambling, posted on X – formerly known as Twitter – about his journey with his addiction in reference to the beginning of the NFL season. “Most of you will enjoy this football season with moderation while having lots of fun and entertainment,” the six-time major winner wrote. Thomas's round of 82 on Thursday, including a nine at the last hole, meant he was playing for pride in his second round and managed that with a level-par 71 in tough conditions. Thomas sits 13th in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings with only the top six guaranteed a spot and six more then selected by the captain. Despite his woes at Hoylake, Thomas said he actually played good golf but made too many "bonehead mistakes". Asked how he might convince Johnson to select him, Thomas said he hopes his record speaks for itself. "I love the team events.

Three months on, the popularity of Clark – who will be eligible for the WNBA Draft in 2024 – shows no sign of waning.
