Rooted in philosophical thought, mimetic desire refers to the notion that people desire the same things that their role models want. In the context of the Vision Pro, that theory could mean consumers may be more likely to purchase the device because celebrities or influencers they admire own it. "If these people are models to you—which they are for many young people—mimetic desire kicks in and you subconsciously want a Vision Pro too." If you have an Apple Vision Pro, some photography tips. After all, the Oculus founder, who did not respond to BI's request for comment, said he believes the Vision Pro will eventually be cheaper for the masses.

Experts say leaning away from traditional work structures, like disregarding job titles, may give the illusion of an employer providing a better culture, but in reality, these frameworks persist because they are important. "Get job titles defined and what someone's actually in charge of, and everyone will be able to hold each other to account about whether all the wheels are turning neatly." A cautionary taleTravis Lindemoen, the founder and CEO of the recruitment startup Enjoy Mondays, told BI that "friends of friends" set off "alarm bells" for him.

Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Corey Tonge, a 32-year-old content creator who makes comedy skit videos for YouTube and TikTok. I've always been a gamer, but I never thought I could build a following by making skits about video games. But I transitioned to YouTube quickly because, for me and most creators, YouTube is the golden platform of sustainability. After I work with a brand, I'll add the people I worked with on LinkedIn. Aside from Disney, I've now worked with Amazon Prime, Netflix, and PlayStation on paid deals, and every single person that I've worked with or pretty much spoken to I've later added on LinkedIn.

They’ve become a fashion accessory, especially since the company that makes the cups, Stanley 1913, has made use of influencer culture to target women and make the tumbler’s sales skyrocket. The reach of the bottles has been amplified by social media users. But social media giveth and social media taketh away. Some Stanley owners, hoping to check the claims, started to use home lead-testing kits, which experts say are not reliable. A sendup of the Stanley cup phenomenon on “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend — a sketch called “Big Dumb Cups” — even mentioned the lead in passing.

As 2024 kicks off, the creator economy is having an identity crisis. "The venture-scale generational companies are, yes, creator companies, but they're also typically fitting into another bucket." Why the creator economy has been 'disappointing'Once pitched as a rocket-ship opportunity, service companies in the creator economy that focus on products for influencers haven't delivered, investors and industry professionals told BI. Although the phrase already existed, the world needed a new way to describe this prospering industry, and thus, the term "creator economy" entered the mainstream. Lia Haberman, an influencer marketing expert and instructor at UCLA Extension, described influencer marketing as separate from the services arm of the creator industry that has faltered.

Surprise: Not every YouTuber edits their own videos. Often a behind-the-scenes gig, the lives and career paths of YouTube editors aren't as public as the stories behind the platform's stars. But like freelance work in media more broadly, many YouTube editors are still figuring out how to structure their payment rates and hours. And unlike in Hollywood where unions often dictate labor terms, YouTube editors are often on their own. The Associated Press (AP) — YouTube is rolling out new rules for AI content, including a requirement that creators reveal whether they've used generative artificial intelligence to make realistic looking videos. In a blog post Tuesday outlining a number of AI-related policy updates, YouTube said creators that don't disclose whether they've used AI tools to make “altered or synthetic” videos face penalties including having their content removed or suspension from the platform's revenue sharing program. Viewers will be alerted to altered videos with labels, including prominent ones on the YouTube video player for sensitive topics. YouTube’s privacy complaint process will be updated to allow requests for the removal of an AI-generated video that simulates an identifiable person, including their face or voice. YouTube music partners such as record labels or distributors will be able to request the takedown of AI-generated music content “that mimics an artist’s unique singing or rapping voice.”

Sam Bankman-Fried’s criminal fraud trial was not the only high-stakes struggle that unfolded this past month at the federal courthouse in Manhattan. Over five weeks, the trial — with its mix of cryptocurrency intrigue and tabloid-worthy romance — attracted an unusually varied crew of reporters, crypto YouTubers, documentary filmmakers and aspiring influencers. Everyone wanted to sit in the gallery to see Mr. Bankman-Fried in the flesh. If someone lined up outside at 5 a.m., someone else would try to make it by 4 a.m. the next day.
