NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump has testified in court as a football owner, casino builder and airline buyer. Trump has testified in court in at least eight trials since 1986, according to an Associated Press review of court records and news coverage. They show clear parallels between Trump as a witness and Trump as a president and current candidate for the office. Trump testified that his $365 million purchase, later approved, would be a “major boost in morale” for employees. In his April deposition, Trump soberly described the presidency as the “most important job in the world” before bragging about saving lives by preventing North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un from launching a nuclear attack.

NEW YORK (AP) — Michael Cohen once proclaimed he'd “take a bullet” for Donald Trump. Trump is expected to be in court for the highly anticipated testimony, detouring from his usual campaign haunts to the Manhattan courtroom for a sixth day this month. In a pretrial court filing, James’ office estimated that Trump exaggerated his wealth by as much as $3.6 billion. They've also called accountants Donald Bender and Camron Harris, whose firms Trump hired to prepare his financial statements. A retired Deutsche Bank official testified the financial statements were key to Trump securing hundreds of millions of dollars in loans. Weisselberg acknowledged that information in Trump’s financial statements wasn’t always accurate, such as valuing his penthouse based on the wrong size. In a decision last month, Engoron resolved the lawsuit's top claim, ruling that Trump committed years of fraud by inflating the value of assets in his financial statements.

NEW YORK (AP) — An accountant who prepared Donald Trump's financial statements was back on the witness stand for a fourth day Thursday in the New York civil fraud trial examining whether the former president exaggerated his wealth. The business fraud trial stems from New York Attorney General Letitia James' lawsuit alleging that Trump and his business ginned up financial statements that vastly overvalued Trump Tower, Mar-a-Lago and other assets. James is seeking $250 million in penalties and a ban on Trump doing business in New York. The witnesses so far have been two accountants who worked on the financial statements, which went to banks, insurers and others. The defense has been trying to show that if there were problems with the financial statements, the flubs were accountant Donald Bender's fault.

NEW YORK (AP) — On notice to mind his out-of-court commentary, former President Donald Trump returned to his New York civil fraud trial Wednesday as his lawyers questioned an accountant who prepared financial statements at the heart of the case. With accountant Donald Bender on the witness stand, state lawyers has sought to show that Trump and others at his company had full control over the preparation of the financial statements. Bender testified Tuesday that the Trump Organization didn’t always supply all the information needed to produce the documents. Trump denies any wrongdoing, and his defense continued Wednesday to fault Bender for any shortcomings in the statements. Suarez then showed video of pretrial testimony in which Bender said he didn't recall whether he consulted with any specialists when preparing Trump's financial statements.

NEW YORK (AP) — After a fiery first day of opening arguments, lawyers in Donald Trump's business fraud trial in New York will move on Tuesday to the more plodding task of going through years of his financial documents in what's expected to be a weekslong fight over whether they constitute proof of fraud. An accountant who prepared Trump’s financial statements for years was expected to be back on the witness stand for a second day. Trump, who spent a full day Monday as an angry spectator at the civil trial, was contemplating a return to court as well. The non-jury trial concerns six remaining claims in the lawsuit, and how much Trump might owe in penalties. James is seeking $250 million and a ban on Trump doing business in New York.

In the first trial, Bankman-Fried faces seven criminal counts related to the collapse of the crypto empire he built, including wire fraud, securities fraud and money laundering. Alameda, FTX and a host of subsidiaries Bankman-Fried founded filed for bankruptcy protection in Delaware. FTX's own terms of use specifically forbade him, or Alameda, from using customer money for anything — unless the customer allowed it. And from FTX's inception, there was a lot of customer money. Bankman-Fried and other executives admitted to each other that "FTX customer funds were irrevocably lost because Alameda had appropriated them."

NEW YORK (AP) — Does a judge’s fraud finding spell the end of Donald Trump ’s real estate empire? He decried Tuesday’s ruling, which shifts control of some of his companies to a court-appointed receiver, as the “KILL TRUMP” decision. As he quizzed the judge, Kise noted that some of the Trump entities being stripped of their business licenses own properties such as Trump Tower and an office building at 40 Wall Street, both in Manhattan. “Is it the court’s position that those assets are now going to be sold or just going to be managed under the direction of the (receiver)?” Kise asked. FTX gets court approval to sell crypto assets

During the hearing, Dorsey overruled concerns raised by two FTX customers who said FTX sales could cause crypto prices to crash and that FTX may not own all of the crypto that it holds in its accounts. FTX said in court filings it was keenly aware of the risk that its effort to liquidate coins could move crypto markets. But keeping its current crypto portfolio intact also carries risks, potentially locking FTX into holding certain assets as their prices decline, according to FTX’s court papers. FTX filed for bankruptcy in November 2022 in the wake of claims that it misused and lost billions of dollars worth of customers' crypto deposits. FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has pleaded not guilty to charges that he defrauded FTX customers by using their funds to prop up his own risky investments.
