Trump’s Vegas Strategy: Run on Bad Luck
  + stars: | 2024-06-10 | by ( Jess Bidgood | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
Keith Rose, a 64-year-old hot tub salesman, arrived at former President Donald Trump’s Las Vegas campaign rally yesterday wearing a necklace with a golden pendant shaped like a tiny horn. “It’s an Italian horn, a sign of luck,” Rose told me, although he clarified that, as a longtime Vegas resident who knows the house always wins, he does not believe in luck. “The odds are always going to be against you, no matter what,” he said. That’s the case for Trump these days, he added. He told Oprah Winfrey in the 1980s that there was no word more important than luck; he recently declared himself the personal good luck charm for the winner of the Miami Grand Prix.

A strategic partnershipIn the spring, Apple was reportedly discussing partnership opportunities with both OpenAI and Google to power its AI tools. That partnership Apple could elaborate on during the opening keynote on Monday. Apple aligning itself with a company and a technology that have yet to win public trust could pose some risks for Apple down the line. Generative AI could potentially propel the headset into another level of personalization and immersion and usher in new use cases for businesses, particularly in the education and medical spaces.

Most of those efforts failed, but they have fueled harmful rhetoric around drag performers and the art form itself. Barbara Alper/Getty ImagesDrag has become increasingly visible in recent years through mainstream shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and popular public events such as drag brunches, drag bingo and drag queen story hours, in which drag performers read children’s books to young audiences, often at libraries. Pickle reads from a book during the Drag Queen Story Hour program at a Los Angeles library in 2019. These lawmakers falsely claim that drag performers “groom” or sexualize children, of which there is also no evidence. It’s why Alaska Thunderf**k, the blonde bouffanted winner of the second season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” first got into drag – to make art that wasn’t bound by rules.

CNN —Hugely popular US television shows like “Shark Tank,” “Survivor” and even “American Idol” are based on hit programs from foreign countries. What better way to shake things up — and spark public interest — than having Biden and Trump spend a weekend together with TV cameras capturing almost every move? That means there’s a possibility that Trump could be sentenced to prison or home confinement for an extended period of time. If that were to happen, the show would be a no-go — unless Biden were to agree to spend the weekend filming in Mar-A-Lago, if Trump should get sentenced to house arrest. If the former president were to get hard time, Biden would have to be game to spend a weekend in Trump’s prison block.

In one of the biggest shocks in cricket history, the USA defeated Pakistan in the T20 Cricket World Cup in Dallas, Texas. AdvertisementThe U.S. now stand a strong chance of qualifying for the Super 8 round (another round-robin stage before the semi-finals). The scores were level after 20 overs, meaning the game was decided by a super over — a single-over shootout where the highest-scoring team are victorious. Needing 19 to win, Pakistan laboured to just 13, with Saurabh Netravalkar bowling well in a pressured situation for the USA. This defeat leaves Pakistan struggling to qualify for the Super 8 stage, with a win against India, the best T20 team in the world, likely to be needed for them to progress.

Even the highest of achievers can struggle with feelings of loneliness and unbearable sadness behind closed doors — a state that's commonly referred to as high-functioning depression. High-functioning depression isn't a clinical diagnosis, but the National Alliance on Mental Illness recognizes it as a term that can describe "anyone who is grappling with mental health issues while accomplishing their day-to-day tasks and upholding their responsibilities." Symptoms of high-functioning depression can present differently than the severe signs of major depressive disorder like diet changes, sleep disturbances, fatigue and feelings of hopelessness, says April Simpkins, mother of the late Miss USA winner Cheslie Kryst. Her husband, the poet David Kherdian, said the cause was cancer. Ms. Hogrogian was among a small number of illustrators to win multiple Caldecotts, considered one of the highest honors in children’s literature.
