Tiktokers are saying that being "delulu" or delusional can help you achieve professional success. Being delusional – or as TikTok users like to say, "delulu" – is a technique in which having radical self-confidence can help you bag a dream job or get that long-awaited promotion. Although it seems counter-productive, TikTok users are lapping up the advice – the hashtag #delulu has 1.6 billion views while #delulugirl has 233.8 million views. She concluded: "The moral of the story is to just be 'delulu' because you're already jobless so it can only go up from here." Another user posted a video saying she quit her full-time job with no plan lined up after but she is "in delulu land thinking everything will work out."

Houghton University has dismissed 2 employees over the usage of pronouns in emails, per The New York Times. Raegan Zelaya and Shua Wilmot pointed to their gender-neutral names in explaining their use of pronouns. A university spokesperson told The Times said the institution has never "solely" terminated anyone over pronoun usage. Zelaya and Wilmot told The Times they had a reason for choosing to utilize pronouns in their emails, pointing to their gender-neutral names that sometimes cause people to misgender. The firings at Houghton University are the latest flashpoint amid an onslaught of anti-LGBTQ legislation and movements across the country.
When Raegan Zelaya and Shua Wilmot decided to include their pronouns at the end of their work emails, they thought they were doing a good thing: following what they viewed as an emerging professional standard, and also sending a message of inclusivity at the Christian university where they worked. But their bosses at Houghton University, in upstate New York, saw the matter very differently. When they refused to do so, both employees were fired, just weeks before the end of the semester. Houghton’s firing of the two staff members has dismayed some of its alumni, nearly 600 of whom signed a petition in protest. And it comes as gender and sexuality have become major fault lines in an increasingly divided nation, and after other faith-based organizations, including Yeshiva University in Manhattan, have argued that First Amendment protections of religious freedom allow them to treat gay and transgender people differently than others.

The Japanese manufacturing giant said Wednesday that its operating income would grow 10% to a record 3 trillion yen, equivalent to about $22.2 billion at the current exchange rate, in the fiscal year through March 2024. The reason is a 10% recovery in vehicle deliveries as semiconductor supplies normalize following pandemic shortages.
Who Pays for King Charles III? The Answer Is Changing

Details of King Charles III’s personal wealth are a closely held secret. WSJ breaks down what is known about the monarch’s assets, his income streams and what he inherited from Queen Elizabeth II. Photo: Hannah McKay/AFPThe funding of the British monarchy, never clean, is getting messier. The transfer of ceremonial power from the late Queen Elizabeth II to her son, King Charles III , reached a climax with Saturday’s coronation in London. Behind the scenes, the company that finances the public activities of Britain’s royal family is also undergoing a radical generational change.

A Ford F-150 under production at the company’s plant in Dearborn, Michigan. Photo: jeff kowalsky/Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesDetroit has a rocky road ahead, but it also has cash to navigate it. First-quarter results from General Motors, Ford and Chrysler-owner Stellantis beat expectations across the board, but investors weren’t impressed. They are more focused on Tesla ’s price war in electric vehicles and the U.S. Federal Reserve’s rate increases, which are pushing up consumers’ monthly vehicle payments.

UBS Can Only Move So Fast on Credit Suisse
  + stars: | 2023-04-26 | by ( Stephen Wilmot | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
Photo: Hannah McKay/ReutersUBS didn’t give investors what many wanted to hear in Tuesday’s first-quarter results: updated numbers for its acquisition of Credit Suisse . But they don’t have long to wait. UBS said it would send a registration document to the Securities and Exchange Commission next month with theoretical “pro forma” numbers for the combined entity. These will include key measures of capital adequacy and liquidity, and, crucially, a so-called purchase price allocation amounting to the company’s first read on what Credit Suisse’s balance sheet is actually worth.
Credit Suisse Lays Bare UBS’s Chance and Challenge

On the face of it, Credit Suisse had probably its best-ever quarter. Photo: Jose Cendon/Bloomberg NewsCredit Suisse is in terrible shape, but UBS is being well paid to nurse it to health. Bizarre quarterly results from the failed bank on Monday put fresh numbers on the risk-return bargain at the heart of Switzerland’s rescue merger. On the face of it, Credit Suisse had probably its best-ever quarter, with pretax profit equivalent to roughly $14.4 billion. Stripping out one-time effects, though, Credit Suisse’s loss before tax swelled to about $1.5 billion, compared with $1.1 billion in the previous quarter, when the crisis of outflows that eventually sank the ship started.
Nobody Told Mercedes-Benz About Elon Musk’s Price War

Mercedes-Benz’s big margins in recent quarters are a transitory phenomenon, according to investors. Photo: thomas kienzle/Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesThere was no sign of Tesla ’s price war in first-quarter results from Mercedes-Benz , but investors are still betting a tougher market will catch up with the luxury brand. Mercedes-Benz reported an operating margin of 14.8% in its flagship car division, among other quarterly highlights, after the market closed on Thursday. The surprise numbers came ahead of its scheduled quarterly results day on April 28, in line with German law that requires it to release results early if they are substantially different from the analyst consensus. For the first time in a few quarters, the operating margin compares favorably with the 11.4% level reported by Tesla on Wednesday, which would have been 9.4% excluding regulatory credits.
Tesla Counts the Cost of Its Price War

Tesla’s real competitive advantage is in the efficient engineering and manufacturing of EVs. Photo: CASEY HALL/REUTERSIt shouldn’t have been a surprise that big price cuts have a big impact on margins, but such is the magical thinking around Tesla that somehow it was. The electric-vehicle maker reported an 11.4% operating margin for the first quarter, down from 19.2% a year ago. Analysts were expecting 12.2%, according to FactSet. This was the performance metric Wall Street was most focused on after a series of aggressive price cuts by the company, and the stock fell about 4% in after-hours trading.
What If Your Tesla Could Run on Sodium?

Illustration: George DownsIf sodium is the new lithium, investors may need to rethink a favorite energy-transition trade. One of the most potentially disruptive snippets of news to come out of the Shanghai auto show this week wasn’t from Tesla or one of its flashy Chinese competitors but from a company that doesn’t make vehicles at all: CATL. The world’s largest battery producer said its first sodium-ion battery would power electric vehicles built by Chinese brand Chery, though it didn’t say when.
