And although every meme coin is an altcoin, every altcoin isn't necessarily a meme coin. "Meme coins are among the riskiest of cryptocurrencies because they seem to emerge from nowhere and information about them can be sparse," he says.

Luckily, Goldman hadn't filled the role, so I started working for them in November 2018. Working at Goldman Sachs would always be limitingI liked working as a trader at Goldman, but it wasn't fulfilling. At the same time all this was happening, Luna Crypto, followed by the crypto market, crashed. CNBC reached out to the SEC about the recent batch of Wells notices sent to crypto firms, and an agency spokesperson declined to comment. Exchanges, both centralized and decentralized, would be forced to choose between registering with the SEC, or delisting ether altogether. watch nowBoth Consensys and Uniswap suggest the SEC's broad approach to classifying securities may be outdated. "The SEC is arguing that the Uniswap protocol is an unregistered securities exchange, and that the Uniswap interface and wallet are both unregistered broker brokers," Ammori said. In January, Steak 'N Shake, a fast-casual restaurant in the Midwest, started installing facial recognition kiosks in its 300 locations for patron check-in. "We believe our partnership with JPMorgan is a watershed moment for biometric payments as it represents the first time a leading merchant acquirer has agreed to push biometric payments to its merchant customers," Miller said. "JPMorgan brings the kind of credibility and assurance that both merchants and consumers need to adopt biometric payments." The majority still prefer fingerprint scans to facial recognition, according to a 2023 survey from PYMENTS, but age is a factor. Juniper Research forecasts over 100% market growth for global biometric payments between 2024 and 2028, and by 2025, $3 trillion in mobile, biometric-secured payments.

AdvertisementBut all that changed the moment I discovered the Premier Cruises' Premier Princess package on Princess Cruises during a family vacation on the Regal Princess in December. Although my parents, brother, and brother's girlfriend went à la carte with their onboard purchases, my fiancé and I ordered the premier package. Here's why it may be worth considering if you're planning to sail with Princess Cruises. AdvertisementAt first glance, that sounds like a significant additional line item — but not when you compare the included items to the cruise's à la carte costs. If you're keeping tabs, I've now accounted for more than the cost of the premier package with just drinks, gratuities, and WiFi.

De-dollarization efforts won't do much to dethrone the dollar, Morgan Stanley said. There are no true alternatives to holding the US dollar at the moment, Morgan Stanley strategists said. AdvertisementThe dollar's status as the top currency of central banks and for international trade probably isn't fading soon, according to Morgan Stanley. "Now, reasonable people can disagree about whether cryptocurrencies are going to appreciate or depreciate, but I'd argue that the best outcome for a dominant currency is neither." Displacing a dominant currency is something that happens over the course of decades, economists previously told Business Insider, as it takes time for people to shift to other currencies once a dominant currency is recognized as "safe."

After living there for 20 years, she saw herself as an immigrant, rather than an expat. I'm in the toothpaste aisle at Target, dumbfounded by a selection that runs several shelves long and as many high. After more than 20 years in Cuba, where Close-Up and La Perla were the only choices for most of that time, I'm overwhelmed by the number of options. In Cuba, moreover, women have full autonomy over their bodies, which I feel is the only way it should be. Comfort food, like a juicy hamburger, is one of the great things about living back in the US.

Sending a small test transaction before making a large transfer is also an effective method of verifying the address, the company says. Cracks might finally be forming in the Federal Reserve's firm hawkish stance, according to Fundstrat Global Advisors' Tom Lee. As investors expected, the Fed kept interest rates unchanged after central bank policymakers had their meeting. "That's not really an inflationary signal, so I think the bar is actually being lowered now for the Fed to cut and I think that's something many people picked up." All in all, Lee thinks there's a "good probability" that interest rates are currently at their peak. If inflation does indeed improve in the next few months and interest rates fall, he has optimistic prospects for stocks.

On Monday, Tse finally picked up a new ID card that registered his gender as male at Hong Kong’s immigration office. The 33-year-old activist, who holds both British and Hong Kong passports, identifies as a man and has lived as a man for years. His British passport identifies him as male but Hong Kong authorities refused to make that change for the city’s identity card, which is compulsory for all residents. So in 2017, Tse took legal action against the Hong Kong government, which fought the case all the way. LGBTQ activists in Hong Kong have long questioned why they must keep fighting through the courts to gain recognition and equality, but they have nonetheless seen repeated successes.
