LONDON (AP) — Zendaya is on a fashion roll, in a cyborg “Dune: Part Two” kind of way. The co-star of the highly anticipated film sequel stunned Thursday at its world premiere when she hit the sand-strewn carpet in a silver robot suit straight from the archive of Mugler. Zendaya's body-hugging armor outfit with sheer plexiglass inserts has built-in gloves she paired with matching silver heels. While the runway version included a matching headpiece, Zendaya opted for a short sleek hairdo and a blue diamond necklace from Bulgari. Mean girls, Spider-Women and sandworms will headline the 2024 box office — and they'll have to do some heavy lifting. Yet, it's unclear if a return to these stories will lure audiences in the new year. Even before Hollywood was disrupted by writers' and an actors' strikes, halting production and delaying some releases, 2024 was expected to be a tumultuous year. After the Covid-19 pandemic, the domestic box office has struggled to fully regain audiences even with tempting titles from major franchises. "Sometimes an industry has to take two steps backwards before going forward again," said Jeff Bock, senior box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations.

SINGAPORE, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Big lizards are a familiar sight in equatorial Singapore but they startled Red Bull's double world champion Max Verstappen and other drivers after straying onto the Formula One racetrack during practice on Friday. "It's going to be a brave marshal to go out and pick one of those up," Red Bull team boss Christian Horner told Sky Sports television. Local fauna are not uncommon company, with drivers used to groundhogs and foxes on Canada's Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal. Friday's lizard incursion recalled the 2016 Singapore race when Verstappen was surprised on track by a big one that his engineer dubbed "Godzilla". They are also diurnal, meaning they sleep at night, and will hopefully pose no further difficulty for drivers preparing for Sunday's night race.

Marko, 80, apologised last week after referring to Perez as a "South American" who was less focused than dominant Red Bull team mate Max Verstappen or the team's now-retired champion Sebastian Vettel. "We can confirm that Helmut Marko has received a written warning and been reminded of his responsibilities as a public figure in motor sport in line with the FIA Code of Ethics," said an FIA spokesman at the Singapore Grand Prix. Perez said on Thursday he had accepted a personal apology from Marko, whose comments continued to provoke a strong reaction in the paddock. It was not the first time Marko had referred to Perez as a South American, although the Mexican comes from Guadalajara which is geographically in North America. "I'm Italian so I know that sometimes we have been facing the same comments," said Alfa Romeo's Alessandro Alunni Bravi.

"Dune: Part Two" has departed the 2023 box office slate amid dual Hollywood labor strikes that threaten its ability to market to the public. Box office analysts have long anticipated that the "Dune" sequel would ditch its 2023 release date amid the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild strikes. Postponing "Dune: Part Two" might help bolster its box office gains in 2024, but will bite a chunk out of Warner Bros. After the stunning success of "Barbie," and with doubts growing about December's "Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom," "Dune: Part Two" was an important 2023 release for the studio and expected to perform well with audiences. Its predecessor excelled at the box office during the pandemic despite being a day-and-date release on streaming service HBO Max (now just called Max).

David French on ‘Arrival’ - The New York Times

The plot features the arrival of 12 mysterious alien spacecraft that hover, silently, at multiple points across the globe. The American government recruits a linguist named Louise Banks (Amy Adams) to communicate with the alien creatures hovering over Montana. It’s interesting to contrast “Arrival” with “Armageddon,” the 1998 Michael Bay blockbuster that also features Americans saving the world. “Arrival” feels different, just as we feel different. In America, as in “Arrival,” we push through not because we’re great but because we must, because our love for one another demands nothing less.

MONTREAL, June 19 (Reuters) - Red Bull's advertising slogan is 'gives you wings' but Max Verstappen had the whole bird on board when he won Sunday's Canadian Formula One Grand Prix. Red Bull's double world champion reported a bird strike early in the 70 lap race at Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and team boss Christian Horner provided more details. "I think the biggest moment he had was hitting a bird that did half the race behind the front right brake duct," he told reporters. Verstappen told Sky Sports television: "It was still stuck on my car when I came in, it didn't look great. Red Bull have won every race this season, Verstappen victorious in six of them, and are on course to smash records.

CNN —Max Verstappen put in another dominant performance to win the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, bringing him level with Formula One legend Ayrton Senna’s victory total. The 25-year-old ties Senna’s career victory total, with the win also being Red Bull’s 100th team victory. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso finished 9.5 seconds behind Verstappen in second place with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton completing the top three. Later in the race, Verstappen avoided suffering a similar fate to that of Mercedes driver George Russell who, after colliding with the wall off of turn 8/9, was ultimately forced to retire. I didn’t have one lap where I could relax a little bit, so it was an amazing battle.”He added: “At the beginning I had a little bit more pace, and at the end I think Lewis had a little bit more pace.

Red Bull can win everything but the gap may be closing
  + stars: | 2023-06-19 | by ( Alan Baldwin | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
June 19 (Reuters) - Red Bull boss Christian Horner recognised after Sunday's landmark Canadian Grand Prix that his runaway Formula One leaders could win every race this season. "On this venue yes, the gap is shorter... it's inevitable that they are closing, we'd be surprised if that wouldn't be the case," said Horner. If there is an Achilles' Heel in Red Bull's dominance, it is the current dependence on Verstappen for the top step of the podium. Should Verstappen suffer a setback, mechanical or otherwise, the chances of the second Red Bull coming through for the win are looking a lot less certain and rivals are sensing opportunities. Verstappen's last race retirement was in Australia in April 2022 and the last time he was beaten by someone not in a Red Bull was last November, when Mercedes's George Russell won in Brazil.

MONTREAL, June 15 (Reuters) - Lewis Hamilton holds the record for Grand Prix wins but the seven-times Formula One world champion recognised on Thursday that Max Verstappen could smash that mark. "He's got a very long career ahead of him so absolutely," Hamilton said referring to Verstappen's chances of eclipsing his record. Verstappen can deliver Red Bull's 100th Formula One victory this weekend and step up alongside the late Brazilian great Ayrton Senna with a career haul of 41 wins. He will start his 318th grand prix on Sunday on the circuit where he claimed his first win in 2007. Red Bull have won 23 of the last 26 races, and 17 of the last 18, and will be only the fifth constructor to hit 100. Verstappen won last year in Canada from pole position ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, the seven times world champion who has won a record-equalling seven times there. "Of course, last year's win is still in my mind so hopefully we can do something similar this weekend," said Verstappen. Mercedes overtook Aston Martin for second place in the constructors' standings after Spain, where they were Red Bull's closest rivals. Ferrari received a morale boost last weekend when they won the Le Mans 24 Hours and enjoyed a strong weekend in Montreal last year.
