Footage from September 2022 of a crowd clashing with police officers in London, during protests over the death of Iranian woman Mahsa Amini, has been falsely portrayed online as showing a scuffle of pro-Palestinian protesters in 2023. The claim surfaced on social media after hundreds of thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched through the British capital on Nov. 11. Police arrested over 120 people as they sought to stop far-right protesters from ambushing the main rally, as Reuters reported. According to a BBC report, the 2022 protest was sparked by the death of Amini while she was in police custody in Tehran. The video was filmed in September 2022 during protests over the death of Iranian woman Mahsa Amini.

By Lisandra ParaguassuBRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil plans to expand its railway network with a 40 billion reais ($8 billion) fund that will be financed by removing discounts given to rail companies by previous government contracts, Transport Minister Renan Filho told Reuters. The Federal Audit Court is now reviewing those extensions after the government of President Lula da Silva disputed the discounts. "We think that some procedures adopted in the contracts are unacceptable," Filho said in an interview on Friday. According to the government, the companies owe an additional 40 billion reais ($8.1 billion) in unpaid concession payments. The government's goal is to have 40% of Brazil's freight, which is mostly iron ore, transported by rail, up from 17% today.

The global nickel market is entering a period of massive oversupply thanks to an Indonesian production boom. The global nickel market moved into supply-demand surplus in May last year and has been there ever since, according to the International Nickel Study Group. The exact timing of that tipping-point is still unknown, which means the big short is still a big bet that the supply chain can close the nickel product gap sooner rather than later.

It would be simpler for Riley and Clark to stay enemies if it weren’t for Danan’s signature evocation of horniness — blended here with just a soupçon of pain kink, as a treat. The sexiness is more cutting than her previous two books, with a bright acid pop that brings out the richness. For sheer defiance, you can’t beat Maria Vale’s MOLLY MOLLOY AND THE ANGEL OF DEATH (Sungrazer, 273 pp., paperback, $14.99) — a weird, adorable stunner of a romance. Molly is no stranger to Death. He absently pats her on the back when he shows up in her grandmother’s hospital room and she nearly chokes on an atomic chicken wing.

There’s an adage about horror movies, often attributed to Alfred Hitchcock: What you don’t see is more frightening than what you do. This makes audio dramas excellent vehicles for the horror genre, because the absence of visual storytelling forces listeners to fill in the gaps. Mining operations account for some 4%-7% of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to global consulting firm McKinsey & Company. But some miners are moving to reduce use of fossil fuels in extracting and refining, partly due to pressure from downstream customers that want more sustainable supply chains. Located beside a crystal-blue lake in the lush jungle of Sorowako, South Sulawesi, Vale Indonesia — a subsidiary of Vale international — runs its smelters entirely from hydroelectricity. Other companies and countries around the world also are reducing use of fossil fuels in their mining operations. But now, having that infrastructure means big savings at a time when global energy prices are high.

While Erik Ten Hag's side set aside a difficult start to the season and cruised comfortably through at Old Trafford, Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers and Luton Town were knocked out by lower-division opponents. Wolves went 2-0 up and then lost 3-2 at Championship (second tier) high-flyers Ipswich Town while Premier League newcomers Luton were beaten 1-0 at League One (third tier) side Exeter City. Vincent Kompany's Burnley, without a win in the Premier League so far this season, overran League Two (fourth tier) opponents Salford City 4-0 with a second-string team. The match was the night's only fixture pitting two top flight clubs against each other and they will meet again in the league at Old Trafford on Saturday. It forecasts that Britain, with a 2030 fossil-fuel car sale ban, could be short 25,000 EV technicians by 2032. And Australia could be 9,000 EV technicians short by 2030, the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce predicts. CEO Lawrence Whittaker said Warrantywise must use expensive franchise dealers to fix EVs because they more often have qualified technicians than independent shops. Customers lacking EV repair options already come from far afield. REUTERS/Melanie Burton/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 4 (Reuters) - Australian mining giant BHP (BHP.AX) said on Monday a Brazilian court had approved the reorganisation plan for its Samarco joint venture, clearing the path for the cash-strapped Brazilian miner to move ahead with a $3.7 billion debt restructuring. The reorganisation plan for Samarco, an iron ore miner that is 50% owned by BHP and 50% by Vale (VALE3.SA), allows for the Brazilian miner's existing financial debt to be exchanged for up to $3.7 billion of long-term unsecured debt, BHP said. "The new long-term debt will remain non-recourse to Samarco's shareholders, BHP Brasil and Vale," BHP said in a statement. Shares of metals and mining company Vale look too cheap to ignore after a major de-rating, according to JPMorgan. Analyst Rodolfo Angele upgraded Vale to overweight from neutral, citing an inexpensive valuation after the more than 27% slump in shares year to date. VALE YTD mountain Vale shares in 2023 "Vale had a very challenging start to the year, marked by low volumes, operating challenges and high costs," he wrote. Angele lifted his price target on U.S.-listed shares to $16 from $15, reflecting more than 21% upside from Thursday's close. Indonesia imported 53,864 metric tons of nickel ore in the first half of 2023, up from 22,503 tons for all of 2022, Indonesian trade data showed. But imports from the Philippines only started in May, and all arrived at Morowali port in a huge nickel processing park run partly by Chinese nickel giant Tsingshan Group, the Indonesian data showed. "But the ore is cheaper by comparison with domestic ore currently and so this will offset some of the rising costs," Mitchell said. The Philippines mined 360,000 tons of nickel in ore in 2022, or 11% of global supplies, according to INSG. Philippines 1.3% grade ore landed at China's Lianyun port surged 20.6% in the past month to $41 a ton, the highest since March, Mysteel data showed.

The ship, chartered by US shipping firm Cargill, has been retrofitted with two WindWings – large steel sails 37.5 meters (123 foot) tall, designed by UK company BAR Technologies and produced by industrialization partner Yara Marine Technologies. Huge kites and rotor technologies have been tried on cargo ships in attempts to reduce their dependence on diesel.
