LONDON— Vivienne Westwood, an influential fashion maverick who played a key role in the punk movement, died Thursday at 81. Westwood’s eponymous fashion house announced her death on social media platforms, saying she died peacefully. Westwood’s fashion career began in the 1970s with the punk explosion, when her radical approach to urban street style took the world by storm. The name Westwood became synonymous with style and attitude even as she shifted focus from year to year. As her stature grew, she seemed to transcend fashion, with her designs shown in museum collections throughout the world.

"Vivienne Westwood died today, peacefully and surrounded by her family, in Clapham, South London. Instantly recognisable with her orange or white hair, Westwood first made a name for herself in punk fashion in 1970s London, dressing the punk rock band that defined the genre. Westwood used her public profile to champion issues including nuclear disarmament and to protest against anti-terrorism laws and government spending policies that hit the poor. "I've used fashion to challenge the status quo."

Britain's charity shops are transforming as they try to appeal to Gen Z customers. The managers told Insider their retro and vintage stores were largely in urban areas with large student populations. Grace Dean/InsiderE-commerce for charity shops is completely different than e-commerce for retailers that sell large batches of new products. Nonessential retail stores had to shut their doors for months during the pandemic, which the Charity Retail Association estimated cost UK charity shops about £28 million, or $32 million, a month. But, as the aisles of charity shops across the UK show, a lot of people do choose to donate them.

Previously unseen works are also on display. Barbieri came to the fore of international fashion photography in the 1960s. "(Today) we see Gian Paolo in colours" and "it is beautiful to have such an artist still expressing his point of view today in Italy," added Italian Fashion Chamber President Carlo Capasa.
Britain's charity shops are changing how they look and trying to appeal to Gen Z customers. They're selling more designer and vintage items, creating listings on Depop, and carefully curating their social-media profiles — all targeted mainly at appealing to the growing number of Gen Z shoppers. Emma Rogue is the founder of Rogue, a vintage store in New York that has fans like Post Malone. He said I should make a video about my Depop store, Rogue — which remained separate from my job at Depop — instead. Depop eventually offered me a full-time job, but I decided to see where I could take Rogue instead and left Depop Space NY in October 2020. The business still has startup vibes, but we have more processes in placeShoppers in the Rogue store. I'm earning more than when I was working at Depop Space NY, but I'm so grateful to Depop because this is how I got my start.
