As it stands, few landlords routinely report rent payments to credit bureaus. (Negative rent information can end up in credit files if a landlord reports delinquent accounts or sends them to a collection agency.) But in recent years, policymakers have been exploring whether consumers can benefit from having on-time rent payments included in credit scores, just as payments for mortgages, car loans and credit cards are. Reporting on-time rent payments is viewed as a way to reduce disparities in homeownership. TransUnion has been able to include rent payments in its credit reports since 2016 and has seen increasing interest from property managers, said Maitri Johnson, vice president of tenant and employment screening at the credit bureau.

NEW YORK (AP) — Walmart Inc. is raising the starting base pay for store managers, while redesigning its bonus plan that will put more of an emphasis on profits for these leaders. Roughly 75% of its store management started out as hourly workers, Walmart said. Walmart said that the store managers' new starting annual base wage ranges will be from $90,000 to $170,000. Walmart announced in January 2023 that U.S. workers would get pay raises the following month, increasing starting wages to between $14 and $19 an hour. Starting wages had previously ranged between $12 and $18 an hour, depending on location.

To have an equitable distribution across the work force, 22 percent of Black workers with a college degree would have to switch occupations with white college graduates. For workers who graduated with a high school degree but lack a college degree, nearly 28 percent of either Black or white workers would have to switch jobs. The researchers called this a “dissimilarity index,” and since 2000 it has ticked up slightly for both groups. The new report notes that Black college students often major in fields that have lower wages. But the dearth of Black students in majors that lead to higher pay in careers like technology or finance, the researchers say, is a legacy of racism.

The amount of money most workers want now to accept a job reached a record high this year, a sign that inflation is alive and well at least in the labor market. Over the past three years, which entails the Covid-19 pandemic era, the level has risen more than 22%. Though there was a gap between the wage workers wanted and what was offered, satisfaction with compensation and upward mobility increased across the board. Job seekers, or those who have looked for work in the previous four weeks, declined to 19.4% from 24.7% a year ago. That came as job openings fell 738,000 to 9.58 million, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
