But hype alone isn't enough: experts say the stores and product needed a revamp, and the brand is now on the right track.
J.Crew has since placed a new CEO at the helm — Libby Wadle, who previously oversaw J.Crew's fast-growing sister brand, Madewell.
"In our industry, it begins with product," Quan said.
