Oamenii de ştiinţă au măsurat pentru prima dată în mod direct miezul unei alte planete, prin intermediul misiunii InSight a NASA pe Marte şi au descoperit că nucleul Planetei Roşii este considerabil mai mare decât estimările anterioare, relatează luni Science Focus, potrivit hotnews.ro. Datele au fost obţinute cu ajutorul unui seismometru, a explicat Divya Persaud, specialistă în planetologie la University College London (UCL), care nu a fost implicată în cercetare. InSight a detectat sute de evenimente seismice în primul an al misiunii sale pe Marte. Măsurând intensitatea acestor semnale şi modul în care interacţionează cu materialul subteran, oamenii de ştiinţă pot detecta structura internă a planetei. Echipa InSight a folosit aceeaşi tehnică pe Marte.
