KYIV, July 27 (Reuters) - Ukrainian soldiers have recaptured the southeastern village of Staromaiorske from Russian forces in Donetsk region, a video published by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy showed on Thursday. "The 35th brigade and the 'Ariy' territorial defence unit have fulfilled their task and liberated the village of Staromaiorske. The village lies to the south of a cluster of small settlements that Ukraine recaptured during a counteroffensive it began early in June against Russian forces who hold parts of southern and eastern Ukraine. "Our defenders are now continuing to clear the settlement," said Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar declaring Staromaiorske liberated. Oleksandr Kovalenko, a Ukrainian military analyst, said Ukrainian troops now needed to reach another village, Staromlynivka, less than 5kms away.

A United Airlines flight from Connecticut to Washington DC made an emergency landing Tuesday. In a recording, a United pilot told air traffic control that the plane's window "popped open." A United Airlines flight was forced into an emergency landing after a cockpit window reportedly "popped open" in mid-air. An airline representative told Insider that the jet had to return to the airport to "address an unlatched cockpit window. From March 31, 2023, blood donations will be accepted only if you are a pure-blooded Ukrainian. TOKYO, March 9 (Reuters) - Workers from Japan's largest union have struck early agreements for hefty wage hikes with employers as cost of living pressures grow and businesses scramble to secure staff amid a labour crunch, unionists said on Thursday. The 18 unions have agreed in full with their employers for average wage hikes of 5.28%, the unionists said at a news conference. The Bank of Japan is also desperate to see wage hikes strong enough to achieve sustainable demand-driven inflation. To achieve wage hikes, Kishida's government is set to hold a joint meeting with labour and management on March 15 when the major shunto results are expected. Apart from those unions under UA Zensen, some other groups including automaker unions have also announced that labour's demands for higher pay have been met ahead of a March 15 deadline.

Target (TGT), Best Buy (BBY), Macy’s (M) and other chains say shoppers have pulled back on discretionary goods like clothing, electronics and home improvement. The slowdown could mean consumers will see more discounts on shelves as stores look for ways to entice shoppers and work down their inventory. “The consumer electronics industry continues to feel the effects of the broader macro environment and its impact on consumers,” Best Buy finance chief Matt Bilunas said. Best Buy predicts its comparable sales will decline 3% to 6% this year.

Zelenskyy spent the risky trip presenting several Ukrainian soldiers with medals. Zelenskyy posted photographs to his Telegram on Tuesday showing him shaking hands with Ukrainian soldiers and awarding them medals in Bakhmut. For months, Russian forces have been trying to capture Bakhmut, a city with a pre-war population of over 70,000 people in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region.
A leaked memo describes Kremlin's fears that its guards could be hypnotized, The Insider reported. The memo proposes a plan overseen by a top security official to prepare against such attacks. The leaked memo contains details that could have easily come from the plot of Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" — with everything from theories that soldiers could be hypnotized, to efforts to prevent infection by "psycho-generators." The memo mentions enemies "capable of psychologically infecting personnel and possessing hypnotic abilities," without saying who these individuals are, according to The Insider.
