“ The most preventive skin care product that anyone can use is sunscreen,” she added. That is why it might not be the best idea to try to curb a tween or teen’s skin care obsession by saying, “You shouldn’t care so much about skin care,” Hida said. It is also important to keep an eye on whether an interest in skin care is a normal part of self-exploration or a sign of deeper issues. Families are the experts on their kids, Hida said, and she suggests looking for signs like fixated worry over appearance or a rigid skin care regimen. Skin care itself isn’t concerning, but how a person responds to it is what determines whether it is healthy or not, Hida said.

Some of these road trips have been bliss, with the kids taking long naps in the back seat, while others have been less enjoyable, with screaming fits and diaper blowouts. Except to announce an upcoming bathroom or meal stop, we now rarely engaged with each other on these car trips. Instead, we would pick an audiobook as a family and listen to it during our ride. And there it was, a parenting win amid the initial shock of a no-screen time road trip. Now, we look forward to car trips with no screensLeading up to our trips now, we start talking about which book we'll listen to while on the road.

To collect vintage clothes is to know that one day, you’ll come across a shirt that will send you into an existential spiral. For me, that moment came last month, as I was tooling around eBay in search of aged band tees. The very same Green Day “American Idiot” shirt that I bought new as a sneering tween was now being sold as “vintage” for a not insignificant sum of $100. To see your childhood resold as vintage—could anything make you feel older than that? Mind you, I’m just 32.

The ‘Pick-me’ girl, explained
  + stars: | 2023-11-29 | by ( Terry Ward | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +5 min
“They were talking about a fellow student, and how she was so annoying because she’s a total ‘pick-me girl,’” the Florida mother of two said. Who are the ‘pick-me’ girls? Social media memes mock pick-me girls with lines like “‘I’ll have pizza, not like my friends who only eat salad,’ and ‘I like baking cookies. “Having people throw it on TikTok as a meme makes the situation that much worse, for girls being accused of being pick-me girls,” she said. “If you do like sports or sitting around with the guys and drinking beer, it puts you in this double bind where being yourself makes you a pick-me girl,” she said.

AdvertisementFor a few weeks in July, an uncanny phrase permeated the air that mildly pained some who typed it: "Hot Zuck Summer." And although "Hot Zuck Summer" might have been a lighthearted take on Zuckerberg, the latest scandal is anything but. On Monday, The Wall Street Journal reported the disturbing way that sexualized content of children was served to adults through Instagram's Reels. Those accounts were then recommended Reels for adult sexual content and sexualized child content, the Journal reported. "Hot Zuck Summer" has turned into "Instagram Nightmare Fall."

How Young Is Too Young for a Crop Top?

For mini Swifties and Alabama sorority girls-to-be, the Dallas boutique Dear Hannah Prep is a pink-and-green, balloon-filled wonderland. And crop tops. Lots and lots of crop tops. For many tweens—and their parents—crop tops are a cute, innocent way to express their burgeoning interest in fashion, and their body positivity. Despite, or perhaps because of, their divisiveness, crop tops for tweens have become big business.

Britney Spears wrote that she had an abortion while dating Justin Timberlake more than 20 years ago, according to a peek inside her hotly anticipated memoir. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young,” she wrote. A 2021 documentary, “Framing Britney Spears,” included an old interview in which Timberlake spoke of sleeping with a former girlfriend and indicated he ridiculed her in his “Cry Me A River” music video. “After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time,” he posted in June 2021.

I left Amazon Studios in 2017 (after accusations I dispute), and five years later, the larger industry picture looks exceedingly bleak. In the last year nearly every major studio, from Warner Bros. to Paramount, has announced layoffs and write-offs. Amazon was plagued by reports that its big investment in a “Lord of the Rings” series yielded disappointing viewership numbers. Many of its key writers and producers, including Judd Apatow and Steve Levitan, went on to broadly influence TV and film comedy. I've been a Taylor Swift fan for years, and I was thrilled to see the Eras Tour, but I didn't take my kids. I'm thrilled to be able to take them to see the movieAnd then Swift announced her "Eras Tour" concert movie. All of these musicals use a pop vernacular, “Bad Cinderella” somewhat less so. Is pop, particularly pop written and produced by men, a useful form for feminist discourse? Martin and the generation of pop architects who followed him treat lyrics almost as an afterthought. COLLINS-HUGHES Inattention to lyrics is a limitation of jukebox musicals, but it doesn’t hold for original pop songs, which can be whatever the writer makes them. It would help, though, if more of the songwriters getting musicals produced were women.

Editor’s Note: Phyllis L. Fagell, a licensed clinical professional counselor and professional school counselor, is the author of “Middle School Matters.” Her new book is “Middle School Superpowers: Raising Resilient Tweens in Turbulent Times.”CNN —After a disappointing routine during a gymnastics meet, Addy Moser was full of self-doubt, so the 13-year-old tried silently encouraging herself using her own first name. It’s not easy for middle schoolers to counteract unrealistic expectations they absorb from peers, family members, the culture and themselves, which is why I devote a chapter in my new book, “Middle School Superpowers: Raising Resilient Tweens in Turbulent Times,” to acquiring “super security,” the power to develop a healthy self-identity. The good news is you can help your child acquire super security. Beyond offering unconditional love, which every child needs to feel secure, parents can do practical things to shore up a tween’s self-image. Parents can encourage children who use social media to be mindful about the posts they see and share.

But, until recently, there’s been a glaring shortage of products targeting the skincare needs of one key demographic – tween boys. Maguiness, a board-certified pediatric dermatologist, and three other co-founders launched the boys skincare brand in 2020, at the height of the pandemic. Carla Birnbaum banned her two daughters from downloading the TikTok app. Lots and lots of them. When her 12-year-old daughter’s iPhone wouldn’t update, she found that the device’s memory was nearly full. Friends had been sending the tween screen recordings of TikTok posts as a way to get around the Birnbaum household’s no-TikTok rule. Her iPhone’s storage was so full of recorded videos—a few hundred, Ms. Birnbaum estimates—there wasn’t enough space to update the software.
As each new year emerges, I reflect on the year before and beat myself up about what didn’t work out. That someone might be a younger version of you, begging for a chance to share their insight. Instead of excitement, I often just feel relieved that the urge to do something meaningful is temporarily muted. Right now, that tween is my wisest teacher, whose first lesson was a simple demand that I try to respect myself again. I’ve been held hostage by self-loathing and perfectionism in recent years, but thanks to my inner tween, next year’s resolutions are all about liberation.
If You Love Fire Pits and Wood-Fired Pizzas, Get Ready

By Leslie YazelWhen I first heard about the Solo Stove Pi Fire pizza oven, I scoffed. You use semolina or cornmeal on the oven’s pizza stone for easy sliding in and out, and in about 8 minutes, you have great tasting wood-fired pizza. It’s perfect for the crucial rotation of the pie and it’s sized exactly for the Pi oven. That tool, combined with the wide “mouth” of the oven, makes rotating the pie easier than with tabletop pizza ovens I’ve tried. If you’ve read this and you’re still thinking, eh, too much time commitment for me, then this wildly-popular, high-quality pizza oven may be a great fit for your needs.
Macy’s Inc. said it is bringing outposts of Claire’s, a fashion-and-accessories store, to 21 of its locations as the department-store operator bets bigger on the store-in-store concept. Claire’s has long been popular with girls in their tween and teenage years, and Macy’s hopes that hosting these stores will bring more business from this demographic going into the holiday season.

She specializes in work with tweens, teens and young adults. The fact that diet culture all over social media targets grown women is bad enough, but such messaging also trickles down to tweens and teens. But as we enter the winter holiday season, shame-based diet culture pressure, often wrapped up with toxic positivity to appear encouraging, increases. “Parents are often made to feel helpless in the face of TikTokers, peer pressure or wider diet culture, but it’s important to remember this: parents are influencers, too,” said Hanson. “Talk openly about it.”She suggests asking the following questions when discussing people’s messaging around diet culture:● Who are they?
Suddenly, in the midst of discussing what Cohen should wear to the next LoveShackFancy store opening, there was the sound of glass clanging. (Another person confirmed hearing this exchange, though the person close to the company said multiple Zoom attendees did not recall it.) The person close to the company said, "It is not uncommon for trips to have dual purposes — they always generate content." Another time, during a visit to the Palm Beach store, Cohen freaked out after seeing staffers in sweatshirts and sneakers. "As with most contemporary fashion brands, we currently do not operate in the plus-size business," the person close to LoveShackFancy said.
