Citing a former co-worker of Lewis’, a private investigator and its own investigation of newspaper archives, the New York Times said Lewis used phone and company records that were “fraudulently obtained” through hacking and paying sources for information. Earlier, Russian state news agency TASS reported that some of the detainees involved were being held in pre-trial detention for cases of terrorist crimes and have links to the Islamic State, Russian state news agency TASS reported. In one video, one man wearing the pro-Islamic Jihad logo on his forehead says the group are Islamic State. The two employees, an operational officer and an inspector-supervisor, were taken Sunday morning by the group of detainees who demanded transport in exchange for the employees’ release, TASS reported citing law enforcement. The detainees were armed with a pocketknife, a rubber baton and a fire axe, Russian media reported citing law enforcement agencies.

Warren Buffett commented at length about the speculative behavior during the first GameStop mania in 2021. Then, the "Oracle of Omaha" called the stock market a gambling parlor for retail investors, encouraged by Wall Street's investment banks and brokerages. "It's become a very significant part of the casino group that has joined into the stock market," Buffett said at 2021's Berkshire annual meeting . Options trading in GameStop exploded after Roaring Kitty, whose legal name is Keith Gill, touted his large positions in those risky vehicles.

Then came European settlers, and over time, tribe members lost access to nearly all of that land. Eventually, the water was lost, too: In the early 20th century, the developers of Los Angeles famously built a 226-mile-long aqueduct from Owens Lake to the city. Less familiar is what happened to the Owens Valley, and the people who lived there, after most of the water was sent south. Owens Lake is now a patchwork of saline pools covered in pink crystals and wetlands studded with gravel mounds designed to catch dust. They have recently reclaimed corners of the valley, buoyed by growing momentum across the country to return land to Indigenous stewardship, also known as the “Land Back” movement.
