CNN —Google is set to open its New York headquarters in a repurposed 1930s railway terminus near Hudson Square on Monday — and the tech giant says the project was designed with nature in mind. Once at the end of the railway now forming New York’s High Line, St. John’s Terminal served as a freight facility and office space. Mark Wickens/Courtesy GoogleGoogle began leasing the St. John’s Terminal site in 2019, and bought it outright in 2022 for $2.1 billion. Mark Wickens/Courtesy GoogleThe building can accommodate around 3,000 workers and is organized into 60 “neighborhoods” for teams of around 20 to 50 people. Google’s parent company, Alphabet, also slashed around 12,000 jobs — then around 6% of its workforce — at the beginning of 2023.

Charles Stendig, who introduced contemporary and avant-garde European furniture to adventurous Americans in his New York City showroom, died on Feb. 11 at his home in Manhattan. His death was announced by R & Company, a furniture gallery in TriBeCa to which Mr. Stendig donated his design library and corporate archives. There was a period, beginning in the 1960s, when the American living room went cheerfully haywire, becoming a showcase for space age and Pop Art design. The future had arrived, and it was plastic and fantastic and brimming with optimism, mirroring the mod revolution in fashion. Mr. Stendig had a hand in much of it, seeking out European manufacturers, including from Finland, in the days when cargo shipping was cheap.

It was one of the first modern French restaurants to receive three stars from The New York Times. At his restaurant Bouley, open from 1987 to 2017, he introduced New Yorkers to new ideas like tasting menus, vegetable-based sauces and the value of locally farmed ingredients. “This was even before the Union Square farmers’ market,” said Bill Yosses, the former White House pastry chef, who worked at with Mr. Bouley at Montrachet and Bouley for almost 20 years. Mr. Bouley was born and grew up in Connecticut, but his path was shaped by his mother’s French heritage. In New York City, Mr. Bouley also worked at the landmark French restaurants Le Cirque, Le Périgord and La Côte Basque.

On Thursday night at the Roxy Cinema in Lower Manhattan, a throng of scarf-bundled cinephiles attended the sold-out screening of a black-and-white psychological thriller, “End of the Night,” that was being shown for the first time in more than 30 years. The film’s obscurity wasn’t what drew the crowd: They were there because of its unlikely writer and director, Keith McNally, the downtown restaurateur who runs Balthazar, Minetta Tavern, Pastis and Morandi. Before he shaped New York’s nightlife with his brasseries, Mr. McNally had serious filmmaking ambitions. His first full-length feature, “End of the Night,” premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight showcase during the 1990 Cannes Film Festival, appearing alongside Whit Stillman’s “Metropolitan.” It went on to be a minor hit in Europe before it became a cinematic footnote. In advance of the screenings at the Roxy, an 118-seat art house cinema located in a hotel in TriBeCa, Mr. McNally drummed up interest with a post on his popular Instagram account: “ANYONE WATCHING THIS FILM AT THE ROXY CAN EAT AT BALTHAZAR OR MINETTA TAVERN THAT SAME NIGHT FOR HALF-PRICE,” he wrote in his typical all-caps style.

During the height of her influence, Paris Hilton was regularly seen with a fleet of chihuahuas in tow. Wearing a Versace lace tailored blazer dress, Moore held Pilaf like a tiny fluffy clutch bag. Moore is known to adopt and foster abandoned puppies (she currently has 10 at her home in Idaho) and is staunchly anti-puppy farms.

Prosecutors said Crowe violated a protective order issued Wednesday mandating he stay away from Swift and her home and refrain from any communication with her. Crowe was arrested Wednesday by officers responding to complaints of an emotionally disturbed man acting erratically near Swift’s townhouse. He was arraigned and issued the protection order, but a short time later he was arrested again near Swift’s residence. Court documents say an unidentified security worker had spotted Crowe near the singer’s home about 30 times since Nov. 25. And that's about to send uranium prices, already at 16-year highs, on another rally. Sulfuric acid is critical in the extraction process as it is used to leach and recover uranium from raw ore. Kazatomprom is the world's leading uranium miner, accounting for over one-fifth of the world's production. Kazakhstan also produces 43% of the world's uranium supply, the largest slice of the global market for the heavy metal. In 2016, I was a very broke writer living in New York, mostly stitching together a living through side hustles. When I reached out to RSR about forthcoming work, they told me they were working with Manhattan-based storage space company Manhattan Mini Storage on a series of billboards. They wanted quippy slogans connecting outer space and storage space. The turnaround time was so quick and I needed to keep making money — ideally more than $45 at a time. At that point, I had picked up a summer babysitting gig and was walking toward the subway on Manhattan's West Side Highway when I noticed a billboard from Manhattan Mini Storage.
