Astronauts currently wear spacesuits — called Extravehicular Activity, or EVA, suits — designed more than 40 years ago when conducting spacewalks. Collins Aerospace’s Next-Gen spacesuit, intended for use at the International Space Station, is seen during the design process. NASA plans to retire the space station sometime within the next several years. But Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, has only guaranteed its participation through “at least 2028.”

The City of Wichita recently had an experience that's become all too common — its water system was hacked. The cyberattack, which targeted water metering, billing and payment processing, followed the targeting of water utilities across the U.S. in recent years. While the methods may be simple, an attack last year by an Iranian-backed activist group against 12 water utilities in the U.S. reinforced how purposeful "an attacker's mindset" can be, according to Witt. The targeted utilities all contained equipment that was Israeli-made. The 2023 Global Traffic Scorecard report by INRIX, a transportation analytics company, found the typical U.S. driver lost 42 hours to traffic congestion — the equivalent of a full work week — that resulted in $733 worth of time lost. Congestion cost the U.S. more than $70.4 billion in 2023, a 15% increase from 2022. The report also states the return to the office post-Covid has continued to affect other modes of transportation. To rank the cities, INRIX looked at travel delay comparisons, collision trends, last-mile speeds, economic costs and time lost. Pishue says the biggest takeaway from the report was that of the urban areas studied globally, 78% saw increased traffic delays in 2023.

New York CNN —Airbus cut its target for how many planes it expects to make this year and next, citing supply chain issues. The tighter-than-expected supply of jets is forcing airlines to adjust their expansion plans, even as they deal with record demand for air travel. That means that passengers could find fewer available seats and fares that are higher than they would be otherwise. But airlines that use Airbus planes have not been without problems, as a number of A320neo jets have been grounded due to problems with their engines. Airfares were down 13% to nearly 19% from those 2022 peaks during the summer travel months last year, as the number of available seats on planes rose by about 15% from a year earlier.

In a blog post on Tuesday, Waymo said nearly 300,000 people have signed up for the service, called Waymo One, since the Alphabet-owned company opened its waitlist. As of February, the company had approximately 700 vehicles in the Waymo One fleet, including about 300 cars as part of its San Francisco service. The company said it has logged 3.8 million rider-only miles in San Francisco as of the end of March.

New York CNN —Norfolk Southern on Tuesday faced harsh criticism from regulators for its decisions immediately after a February 2023 derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.
