“I spent two very intense weeks working on it, every night, every weekend, all the time that I had,” he said. Mr. Bolt was hoping to create the design for Lego Ideas, a program the toymaker started in 2008 to solicit ideas online directly from fans. Typically, designers post their concept on the platform, and if a design gets 10,000 votes, the company considers it for production. This case was different, though: It was the first time the company had given fans a concept to work with. A panel of judges selected his set and four others for a shortlist, and in a vote fans chose his set as their favorite.

Star Wars Lego models are seen at the Bricks & Figs museum in Krakow, Poland, on April 15, 2023. A design director at the Denmark-based Lego company, he has spent the past 25 years creating Lego Star Wars sets. Now, Lego Star Wars has become a blueprint for the company's other brand deals — think Harry Potter, Batman and Marvel's Avengers. The Lego Star Wars collaboration came at a time of financial turmoil for Lego. Lego Icons, Lego Technic, Lego City and Lego Harry Potter also performed well.

But this week, investigators finally revealed her identity: Patricia Kathleen McGlone, a 16-year-old who lived in Brooklyn. NYPDInvestigators believe Patricia was killed in late 1969 or early 1970 and buried in the basement of the building. With advanced forensics, they determined her parents’ identity and where they lived in Brooklyn, and scoured through local public documents. Decades earlier, around the time Patricia was believed to have been killed, the building housed a nightclub called The Scene, Glas said. The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office determined in 2003 that the skeleton belonged to a teenage girl who stood 5-foot-2.

Dr. Hassabis, 47, is the chief executive of Google DeepMind, the tech giant’s central research lab for artificial intelligence. Rich families across the globe are concerned about how to prepare their children to manage their wealth, but few are doing anything about it. According to a survey by JPMorgan, 69% of ultra-wealthy families cite succession planning as a top priority. That said, she attributed some of the reluctance to many of these family offices being formed within the past 10 or even five years. "Conversations about wealth can be challenging and, in our experience, families often have found it difficult to get started," she told Business Insider. Only 15% of family offices with at least $1 billion in assets kept heirs unaware compared with 27% for firms with $50 million to $500 million.

As anchor department stores left malls, so did some name-brand chains like Ruby Tuesday, Chili’s, Applebee’s and others. What’s taking their place illustrates a large shift in US tastes: There’s a boom in smaller and regional restaurant chains with a local following. At the same time, many national chains are prioritizing drive-thru locations over their sit-down restaurants in malls. Chick-fil-A restaurants were only located in mall food courts for the company’s first 20 years. “Traditional mall restaurants were casual dining chains like Chili’s, TGI Fridays, and quick-service restaurants in food courts.

Toymaker Hasbro posts quarterly profit beat, slower sales decline
  + stars: | 2024-04-24 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
Hasbro reported a smaller-than-expected drop in first-quarter sales and handily beat profit estimates on Wednesday, as leaner inventories and steady digital gaming revenue helped cushion a drag from softer demand for toys. However, efforts to clean up its inventory throughout 2023, along with cost efficiencies, helped its operating margin expand to 15.3%, from 1.8% last year. On an adjusted basis, Hasbro reported earnings per share of 61 cents in the quarter ended March 31, compared to 1 cent last year. The toy maker said it was on track to achieve the fiscal 2024 targets it set in February. On Tuesday, Barbie maker Mattel posted a smaller-than-expected loss for the first quarter, helped by its costs-saving measures.

Read previewSome tech devotees already seem to be losing interest in Apple's Vision Pro just months after the futuristic headset hit the market. That's bad news for Apple, which spent eight years and billions of dollars creating the Vision Pro. Apple has seemingly responded to the growing disinterest by boosting marketing around the device, evidenced by the Vision Pro's prime placement on the company's website. The Vision Pro requires its wearer to attach a battery, start the device, and move through its interface each use. BI's Jordan Hart foresaw some of those issues back in February, writing that she was running out of reasons to wear the Vision Pro after just one week.

The American Kennel Club's pedophile problem

The mother contacted the American Kennel Club, the organization that oversees most dog shows in the country. The AKC helps local kennel clubs enforce rules about conduct and animal treatment. The bulk of the organization's income comes from the dog-show community, in the form of event and registration fees paid by local kennel clubs and breeders. The debate is taking place as kennel clubs try to entice younger children to show dogs. Many dog shows include competitions for junior handlers, including a "Pee Wee" division for kids under the age of 10.

Meneses Maples refers to herself as an adult “glass child,” the sibling of a person with a mental or physical disability. How does a glass child disappear? It is important not to assume what the needs of a glass child are, said Missud, the New York psychotherapist. More than a decade after her TEDx presentation, Meneses Maples receives messages from parents of glass children seeking her advice. Meneses Maples said she hopes to inspire research on glass children by spreading the word through presentations and workshops.

I was gifted with a new way of seeing the day I got mugged underwater. A couple years earlier, another curious octopus stole the wedding ring off my wife’s finger, never to be recovered. Peering into their dens, I’ve found earrings, bracelets, spark plugs, sunglasses and a toy car with a revolving cylinder that the octopus spun round and round with its suckers. As I wondered how to get my camera back without alarming my young friend, something surprising happened. After many years filming octopuses and hundreds of other animals that call the Sea Forest home, for the first time I was seeing the world — and myself — from her perspective.

CNN —Taylor Swift released “The Tortured Poets Department” on Friday, a 31-track surprise double album, and she’s clearly in an emotionally evolved era. Either way, as the title suggests in this song, she’s determined to get him back. ‘I Hate it Here’“This place made me feel worthless,” Swift sings. Others have connected the Cassandra that Swift sings about to the figure in Greek mythology, a priestess whose accurate prophecies were not believed. ‘The Bolter’“As she was leaving it felt like breathing,” Swift sings.

Corny as some moments may be, this is a marvelously deranged pop album. But the writer-director's latest film, "Civil War," isn't about to spoon-feed its message to audiences, either. He wants "Civil War" to make the viewer think, question, and, most importantly, feel. There's been plenty of conversation around how to interpret the message of "Civil War," but you've also been a bit misinterpreted lately. For example, one of the journalists in "Civil War" says, "Oh no, it's like the race to Berlin." She's having an internal state of civil war, which then goes into its own state of collapse.

Vertigo3d | E+ | Getty ImagesThe chief technology officer of Ceres Power has warned that as artificial intelligence tools become more widely used for efficiency, there is a risk that this could result in even higher energy consumption. "What scares me is the energy consumption if you're using ChatGPT [for simple queries]," Caroline Hargrove said during an "IOT: Powering the Digital Economy" panel on the new energy landscape. Hargrove is CTO of Ceres Power, a developer of clean energy technology, including electrolysers for green hydrogen. An International Energy Agency report, published in January, highlighted that on average a typical Google search uses 0.3 watt-hours of electricity versus 2.9 watt-hours for a ChatGPT request. Hargrove said if this consumption was not managed properly "then the perverse effect could happen that we use so much more energy."
