New York CNN —Donald Trump can’t quit Fox News. Comparatively, Trump posted 26 video clips from the upstart internet streamer Right Side Broadcasting Network, 11 videos from the pro-Trump cable channel Newsmax, and 5 from the far-right Real America’s Voice. He posted eight links to Real America’s Voice, only three to Breitbart, and one to the New York Post. Indeed, Polskin’s analysis pulls back the curtain on how Trump works the media. The warped feedback loop is yet another way in which he exploits the media for his own ends.

CNN —The most uncancellable person in US History — iconic American singer, songwriter and actress, Dolly Parton — has been caught in the crosshairs of cancel culture. Have the haters run afoul and gone and ruined Dolly Parton as the magical unifier that she has long been known for? But Dolly Parton slid through over the past years, decades even, largely unscathed by the polarization and division. Indeed, the pitchforks coming for Dolly Parton serve as an apt reminder of America’s decline and sheer terror of the evitability of civil war. That is, if we can heal from this episode and uncancel Dolly Parton.

CNN —Jeff Bezos, the billionaire owner of The Washington Post, broke his silence Tuesday on the mounting turmoil within his newspaper, expressing support for maintaining high standards at the storied publication as questions swirl over the ethical integrity of its new publisher, Will Lewis. Bezos added in the memo, which was obtained by CNN, that “it can’t be business as usual” at The Post, which has been plagued by financial and audience woes. With your support, we’ll do that and lead this great institution into the future,” Bezos wrote. “But, as the newsroom leaders who’ve been shaping and guiding our coverage, you also know our standards at The Post have always been very high. That can’t change — and it won’t.”“You have my full commitment on maintaining the quality, ethics, and standards we all believe in,” Bezos added.

His biggest advice for those wanting to become culinary directors is to work hard and care about the customer. Jeffrey MacMillan/The Washington Post/Getty ImagesWhile Paquette's culinary background helped him get to where he is, he says a strong work ethic is still the most important trait. "I've watched a number of people come through, many that did have a background in formal culinary education, and then many that just had worked their way through the ranks," he said. "My response to that is, 'Work hard. This is what I want to do with my career and how I want to grow.'

New York CNN —Jeff Bezos has a decision to make — and it is one that will determine the future course of one of the nation’s most prestigious news organizations. Or he can side with his Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom, which is repudiating their new leader in clear and unmistakable terms. And The Post reported Sunday that a “thief” who used deceptive tactics to obtain private material had ties with Winnett. The stories landed like a one-two punch in The Post newsroom, raising even more alarm and upping the panic level at the newspaper to new heights. When Bezos first appointed Lewis, staffers at The Post understood that he needed to appoint a publisher and chief executive who would shake things up in the newsroom.

CNN —Maryland’s governor pardoned more than 175,000 marijuana convictions Monday – a significant act of mass clemency that reflects the rapidly changing attitudes toward a drug that more than half of Americans want to see legalized. Wes Moore, a Democrat, will forgive low-level marijuana possession and certain paraphernalia charges for an estimated 100,000 people, the governor’s office said, noting it was possible for a person to have more than one conviction pardoned. But it will result in the pardons of more than 150,000 misdemeanor convictions for simple possession of cannabis and more than 18,000 misdemeanor convictions for use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. Officials framed the pardons as an effort to undo the lasting harm left by these convictions, which are disproportionately borne by Black and brown people. The war on drugs was a war on communities of color,” Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown said at Monday’s event.

Citing a former co-worker of Lewis’, a private investigator and its own investigation of newspaper archives, the New York Times said Lewis used phone and company records that were “fraudulently obtained” through hacking and paying sources for information. A spokesperson for the Washington Post told CNN Lewis declined to comment. The Washington Post did not respond to CNN with regard to these allegations. “It’s as bad as I’ve ever seen it, truly,” one staffer said earlier this month, noting that the Washington Post has hit “rough patches” before but that the stormy atmosphere hanging over the outlet is unprecedented. CNN —With less than two weeks until the first presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle, CNN has released additional details on the parameters agreed upon by the Trump and Biden campaigns. Both candidates agreed to appear at a uniform podium, and their podium positions will be determined by a coin flip. In order to meet CNN’s qualifications for the debate, candidates must satisfy the requirements outlined in Article II, Section 1 of the US Constitution to serve as president. Both Biden and Trump meet those requirements, as do Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein, who are running on non-major-party tickets. Though not impossible in Kennedy’s case, it is less likely that candidates other than Biden and Trump will meet those requirements.

The publisher and incoming editor of The Washington Post used fraudulently obtained phone and company records in newspaper articles as journalists in London, according to a former colleague, the published account of a private investigator and an analysis of newspaper archives. Will Lewis, The Post’s publisher, assigned one of the articles in 2004 as business editor of The Sunday Times. Another was written by Robert Winnett, whom Mr. Lewis recently announced as The Post’s next executive editor. The use of deception, hacking and fraud is at the heart of a long-running British newspaper scandal, one that toppled a major tabloid in 2010 and led to years of lawsuits by celebrities who said that reporters improperly obtained their personal documents and voice mail messages. Mr. Lewis has maintained that his only involvement in the controversy was helping to root out problematic behavior after the fact, while working for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.

CNN —In February, the Israeli Defense Forces released a grainy video showing the back of a man they identified as Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ leader in Gaza. Since the video didn’t show Sinwar’s face, there was no independent confirmation that the shadowy figure was indeed the Hamas leader. Former Israeli dentist Yuval Bitton, who treated Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in an Israeli prison, speaks during an interview in his house in Kibbutz Shoval, Israel, February 5, 2024. While he was in prison, Sinwar admitted that he had killed several Palestinians who he believed were collaborating with the Israelis. While he was in prison, Sinwar became the leader of his fellow Hamas inmates, according to The Washington Post.

When The Washington Post staff gathered in the newsroom in early May to celebrate winning three Pulitzer Prizes, one person was conspicuously absent: Will Lewis, the company’s publisher and chief executive. That’s because Mr. Lewis was in New York meeting with Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon and owner of The Post, who was in the city to attend the Met Gala, according to two people with knowledge of the meeting. The pair had been discussing a reorganization aimed at helping The Post turn around its business. That included creating a “third newsroom” inside The Post to focus on new editorial products, an idea blessed by Mr. Bezos, according to one of those people and another familiar with the talks. Mr. Lewis’s decision this month to go ahead with that plan has shaken The Post.

Trump's out to charm Gen Z, and that demographic might already be souring on BidenFreshly convicted of 34 charges of falsifying business records, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee seems to have a new campaign strategy — appealing to younger Gen Z voters. Appealing to Gen Z could work for Trump, especially if one accounts for the "Trump amnesia" effect among Gen Zers. Now aged between 12 and 27 — some Gen Zers may have been too young during his presidency to be politically in tune with Trump-era policies. And Gen Zers who vocally backed Biden during his 2020 run may also be souring on him in 2024.
