Airbnb removed the listings in JulyAccording to the Daily News, the Airbnb host was Magdalena Kulisz, who went by the name Magda Agata on the platform. Another guest gave the listing one star, writing: "This 'van experience' is not a fun experience."

July 9 (Reuters) - New York City police on Saturday arrested a man suspected of randomly firing at people while riding a scooter through the streets of Brooklyn and Queens earlier in the day, killing an 87-year-old man and wounding three other men, officials said. As he's driving on the scooter he's randomly shooting," Assistant Chief Joseph Kenny of the New York City Police Department told a press conference. The victim who died was an 87-year-old man shot in the back, Kenny said. The other victims were a 44-year-old man shot in the cheek who was in critical condition, a 63-year-old man shot in the right shoulder in stable condition, and a 21-year-old man who was hit in the shoulder and was not as seriously wounded, Kenny said. Police declined to identify the suspect but said he had one prior arrest on his record.

But learning the facts - that affirmative action is critical for fostering equal access and opportunity in our academic institutions -cemented my belief that affirmative action is necessary if we want to create an equitable nation. The court’s decision Thursday is consistent with its view that race-based preferences should and would have a limited shelf life. Jon Wang, who revealed himself as a plaintiff in this Supreme Court case, was rejected by Harvard but was accepted at and is now attending Georgia Tech. Affirmative action enabled my ability to experience different ways of thinking and to form the lasting friendships I have made. Affirmative action has been a tool used by many countries to ensure underrepresented communities are included in areas they normally are not.

Muted tk tkLike other band members have done consistently over the years, Waters denied that Pink Floyd intentionally structured its 1973 album to align with the 1939 film. Before my article, “The Dark Side of the Rainbow” was just a word-of-mouth thing on an early internet message board. I mostly listened to alternative rock in those days, but Pink Floyd’s Usenet group had a hold on me. I shared that page on the Usenet group and added it to a Pink Floyd “Web ring” — a system in which people with related pages linked to one another. The article page was logging hundreds, then thousands, and eventually tens of thousands of visitors.

Then Donald Trump won the presidential election, and I felt that maybe in that moment there was work to do elsewhere. With its clever, large-format headlines and populist sensibility, HuffPost had the feel of a left-of-center tabloid, like The New York Daily News in its heyday. In a way, this plan represented a very old model of paying for quality journalism, one that began in 1833, when a young businessman named Benjamin Day had an idea. The handsome profits they reaped enabled investments in high-quality journalism, including high-risk and expensive endeavors such as investigative reporting and international coverage. Local news cratered, and even titans like The New York Times faced existential threats.

Rep. Jim Jordan held a Manhattan hearing criticizing its 'soft-on-real-crime' DA. The House Judiciary Committee hearing was met with pushback about crime in red states like Jordan's. NYPD stats show that the first three months of 2023 have seen a decline in Manhattan crime compared with the first three months of last year. The chairman is doing the bidding of Donald Trump," Nadler said. Bragg responded by suing Jordan and the House Judiciary Committee; his lawsuit seeks to block the subpoena and to stop Jordan's investigation.
Both New York tabloids on Saturday called out Trump's violent rhetoric toward Alvin Bragg. But both the liberal-leaning New York Daily News and conservative-leaning New York Post shared a rare moment of consensus on Saturday when they both condemned the threats of violence made by Donald Trump in response to news that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg could soon indict the former president. Similarly, The New York Daily News called Trump "THE DANGEROUS DON," adding that New York politicians slammed "Trump's 'racist bile.'" In one post he referred to Bragg as a George "Soros-backed animal," prompting New York politicians to condemn him for racism and anti-Semitism, according to the Daily News. The New York Post, which was once a reliable Trump stalwart, has recently turned its back on the former president.
Trump will surrender to authorities if he's indicted, his lawyer said. "We will follow normal procedure if it gets to that point," Joe Tacopina told Insider. Questions have swirled about whether Trump, who famously refused to acknowledge his 2020 election loss, would resist coming to Manhattan to face charges. Experts see little upside to attempting to fight extradition from Florida, however, and defendants in white-collar cases are normally afforded the right to self-surrender to authorities at the Manhattan DA's downtown headquarters, where fingerprints are taken and mugshots snapped. Tacopina told Insider that as of late Friday afternoon, the defense has not had any indication that an indictment has been voted and filed.
Jared Fogle became Subway's pitchman after losing 245 pounds by mostly eating the chain's subs. A Fogle documentary airing in March is bad timing for Subway as it looks for a buyer, analysts say. A NYC law set to go into effect in January requires Airbnb hosts prove they reside at the property. An estimated 10,000 — or 25% — of the city's Airbnb rental units could be shut down as a result. There are about 40,000 Airbnb listings in New York City, according to the unofficial database Inside Airbnb. Some real-estate investors turned their eye toward short-term rental properties during the pandemic, with short-term rental listings spiking by 19% from September 2019 to this September, according to AirDNA. The Campaign Legal Center fights against lawlessness and unethical behavior in politics. Brendan Quinn, a spokesperson for the Campaign Legal Center, says the nonprofit organization cannot return or give away Bankman-Fried's money because the money is already spent. Asked whether the Campaign Legal Center would consider disgorging an amount of money equivalent to what Bankman-Fried contributed, Quinn noted that the Campaign Legal Center is not a political candidate or committee. The Campaign Legal Center has not yet provided Insider a copy, first requested December 2, of the most recent IRS 990 tax document filed by Campaign Legal Center Action, its advocacy arm. Former President Donald Trump has been a frequent target of the Campaign Legal Center's legal and ethics efforts.
