The use of Eli Lilly 's Mounjaro for weight loss can pull shoppers away from the snack aisle — though the transition will likely be gradual, according to Morgan Stanley. Kaufman noted a six-week study presented at ObesityWeek that showed users of Mounjaro cut calories and weight at a faster clip. The study also produced evidence that medication takers had a "significant reduction in food consumption," as well as fewer cravings for sweets and fast food fats. And while taking Mounjaro reduced food cravings overall, it had a particular impact on sweets, the study found. All four of the snack makers Kaufman said to watch have lost share value in 2023.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday gave his take on Kellogg's decision to split into two separate companies, saying investors may want to wait and see how these stories play out before thinking about buying. Kellogg's two businesses are now cereal-focused WK Kellogg and snack-focused Kellanova . "Maybe someday Kellanova will be worth circling back to, but in a world where snack food stocks have gotten the cold shoulder, I don't think we're there yet." Before the split, which was announced last year, snacks accounted for 80% of Kellogg's net sales in 2021. "You've really got to stick your neck out to buy Kellanova or WK Kellogg at these levels, and I don't think they're giving you much reason to take the risk," Cramer said.

Jim Cramer's week ahead: Focus on September jobs report

CNBC's Jim Cramer said next Friday's nonfarm payrolls — the employment data over the past month — may decide if October will see a market rally. On Tuesday, spice and flavor manufacturer McCormick will report earnings, and beverage company Molson Coors will have an analyst meeting. Cramer said the tech company is coming off the report of a great quarter and forecast, and he thinks the stock could have more room to run. Cramer again emphasized Friday's labor report, saying in order to have a "strong October," the nonfarm payrolls need to show some slack in the workforce. Cramer noted the jobs report will not come out if the government shuts down.

Shrek Crocs are officially real
  + stars: | 2023-09-17 | by ( Aj Willingham | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +2 min
CNN —In the distant future, archaeologists will happen upon a Shrek Croc, its soft vinyl unsullied by the ages, and they will have questions. Crocs, the brand behind everyone’s favorite unapologetically ugly shoe, has collaborated with DreamWorks to craft an extremely important cultural artifact: The Shrek Croc. Green, freckled, and just a little scary, the Shrek Croc (or Shroc, if you will) has long been a dream for some Croc lovers. There actually is a 2018 Change.org petition floating around to “Make Shrek Crocs Real.” The good people at Crocs know what’s up too: In the run-up to the shoe’s launch on September 13, the official Croc X account retweeted 20 identical messages from an account called “Shrek Crocs,” all reading “Make Shrek Crocs real.”“The wait is over for the most wonderfully hideous Classic Clogs,” the shoe’s description reads. There are Pop Tarts Crocs (Croc-Tarts), Lisa Frank Crocs, Barbie Crocs, Crocs with fanny packs and even scented Crocs Jibbitz — a combination of words commanding almost as much dark energy as “Shrek Crocs.”Most reactions to the Shrek Crocs fall into one of two categories: “I need them immediately,” or “If you wear these in public I will perform a citizen’s arrest.” If your thoughts lean toward the former, you may want to hurry.

REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File PhotoAug 9 (Reuters) - Packaged food maker Kellogg (K.N) said on Wednesday its snacking business Kellanova is expected to report full-year sales between $13.4 billion and $13.6 billion after Kellogg separates into two units at the end of the year. Kellogg last year unveiled plans to split the company to sharpen its focus on the snack business. The cereal business, WK Kellogg, which will be home to brands including Kellogg's and Froot Loops, is expected to post full-year net sales of $2.7 billion. Earlier this month, Kellogg forecast a smaller drop in annual profit than previously expected following multiple price hikes for its breakfast snacks and cereals.

Van der Poel answered nature's call in comfort during protest
  + stars: | 2023-08-06 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
GLASGOW, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Newly-crowned Dutch world road champion Mathieu Van der Poel said he used a nearly hour-long stoppage to Sunday's showpiece race to answer the call of nature in comfort. The elite men's race was brought to a standstill after 80km when anti fossil fuel protesters from a group named This is Rigged blocked the road. While some riders took on food and drink or had a massage in a team car, Van der Poel's needs were rather more urgent and he managed to find a house for a comfort break rather than having to skip behind the nearest hedge. The protest was going on ahead, they said it was going to take probably half an hour so we bundled into whatever car was nearest and bunkered down until we could get going again." Karma Masselli woke up Thursday morning knowing it was a special day. Masselli, 26, and her group of about 25 friends began the festivities by rummaging through their closets for sheer pants and polyester shirts and pink Crocs to assemble their outfits, each representing a different doll: Cowgirl Barbie, Sporty Barbie, Vintage Barbie, Malibu Barbie, Mermaid Barbie and more. Next was “Barbie brunch” at a friend’s apartment in Brooklyn, featuring an array of pink foods, including pink deviled eggs, pop tarts, pasta salad with beets and pink salsa. “It felt like it was the Super Bowl at our ‘Barbie brunch,’” Masselli said. “It felt like we were getting together and having a holiday about girliness.”

Modi, a strict Hindu who follows a vegetarian diet, will be served a first course that includes a grilled corn kernel salad and tangy avocado sauce, the White House said. With the slightly Indian-accented dinner, the Bidens are following a White House tradition of serving guests from abroad food that has faint echos of home with a strong American bent. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's 2009 state dinner featured basmati rice, but also White House grown arugula and pumpkin pie tarts. Season 1, Episode 1: ‘Pop Tarts & Rat Tales’In the background of an early scene in the new HBO series “The Idol” you can hear Fiona Apple’s 1990s hit “Criminal.” The pop star heroine of the series, Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), is posing for her album cover. Areolas are not allowed per the nudity rider — a detail that neither Jocelyn nor her team seem to care about. As Apple’s track plays, two of the members of Jocelyn’s entourage describe her alternately as Brigitte Bardot and Sharon Tate — the latter reference, to the actress and Manson murder victim, is meant to make you shudder. Still, the use of “Criminal” stood out to me among the onslaught of cultural references Sam Levinson throws at the audience. Lewis Black, ‘Tragically, I Need You’(YouTube)If a stand-up can tap into or channel the fury of an audience, he can light up a room. Lewis Black’s great gift is that behind that dyspeptic front, you could detect a thoughtful, introspective side, a little damaged perhaps. He shows us more of that vulnerable side here, in part because the isolation of the pandemic put him in a reflective mood. Along with swinging sharp political elbows, in defense of Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, say, Black beats himself up over past relationships and sings the praises of companionship. He talks about his failed career as a playwright, bringing up theater because “I like to feel the interest of the audience leave the room.”

Kellogg is renaming its snack business "Kellanova" — a combo of Kellogg and a Latin word for "new." Kellogg is naming its snacking division "Kellanova," the latest step in breaking up the company, it said on Wednesday. The name draws inspiration from the Kellogg name and a common Latin word, Kellogg CEO Steve Cahillane said in a statement. Etsy and Mondelez are among other companies with Latin namesKellanova is hardly the first company rebrand to draw inspiration from Latin. Before that, cigarette maker Philip Morris said it would change its name to "Altria" in an allusion to the Latin word for "high," the Journal reported in 2001.
Central London's City of Westminster is its political heart, while the City of London is where the capital's financial decisions happen. But be warned: Several paths across Hyde Park are pedestrian-only, and police often fine people who cycle on them. The City of London is a blend of old and new, with St Paul's Cathedral close to skyscrapers as well as Roman ruins. While north London has Hampstead Heath, south of the river is Richmond Park, which dwarfs its northern counterpart in size. There's also a branch in central London's Covent Garden — the flower-filled restaurant The Petersham — that has an sit-down deli and bar.

Dec 22 (Reuters) - Kellogg Co (K.N) said on Thursday it has decided to divest its operations in Russia to local snacks and drinks maker Chernogolovka as the company joins a long list of Western brands pulling out of the country. The Kellogg business in Russia currently represents less than 1% of the company's total net sales, a company spokesperson said, adding that sustaining its operations there has now become untenable. Founded in 1998, Chernogolovka makes snacks, energy drinks, and bottled water, and has been producing Cola Chernogolovka since May, following the suspension of sales in Russia by soda giants Coca-Cola (KO.N) and PepsiCo (PEP.O). Chernogolovka, which has also started supplying soft drinks to the Russian outlets of Burger King and KFC in April, said it has signed a binding agreement with Kellogg. Kellogg, also known for its Pop-Tarts and Pringles snacks, joins a list of Western companies that have sold their Russian assets to comply with sanctions imposed on Moscow over the Ukraine conflict.
CARACAS, Dec 1 (Reuters) - After years of struggle, veteran bakeries in Venezuela's capital Caracas are cooking up a variety of delectables, in the latest sign that the country's slight economic boost is reviving some family-owned small businesses. Dollarization meant freedom from the troughs and peaks of Venezuela's local currency, extra dough for spending in some sectors, and greater ease for importing certain ingredients, like wheat flour. Processing and distribution of wheat flour was under state control for years and supplies were intermittent, leading to lower production, while Venezuelans saw bread rationed. Venezuela imports wheat flour for processing. Despite the county's economic improvement, low salaries remain a hurdle for bakeries looking to grow.

Inflation appears poised to gobble up this year's Thanksgiving budgets, as U.S. food prices continue to soar. Leading the food price increases over the past 12 months: margarine, up 44%; flour and prepared flour mixes, up 24.2%; frozen and refrigerated bakery products like pies, tarts and turnovers, up 20.4%. Uncooked turkey prices were up 17%, and processed fruits and vegetables were up 16%. Turkey prices have seen a particularly acute impact from inflation and a bird flu outbreak. Other factors driving food prices higher are the costs of energy and labor.
Drug cartels are using brightly colored “rainbow fentanyl” pills to target children as young as middle schoolers, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration warned Monday, signaling a new threat in the opioid crisis. “This is another tactic that they’re using to get more fentanyl to more people,” Milgram said. The DEA and other law enforcement agencies have seized fentanyl in the colorful presentation in 21 states, she said. In recent weeks, Milgram said, the agency has been called to middle schools to investigate fake pills that looked like medication but were actually fentanyl. The district is offering the lifesaving drug Narcan at all schools free to reverse the effects of fentanyl.
Tapping into that millennial nostalgia has become the way Miller and many other creators with similar throwback content pay their bills. And brands know that partnering with such creators, who have specifically built their followings around nostalgia content, can help them get more exposure from a desired demographic. It’s no surprise that nostalgia content has become so popular — as the age-old saying goes, everything old becomes new again. Nostalgia content feels authentic and plays to shared experiences, which helps it perform well with Gen Z and millennials alike, Karwowski said. In one video, Miller collaborated with the singer and 2000s heartthrob Jesse McCartney to promote his U.S. tour.
