"I'd be surprised if FIT 21 or something like it actually becomes law this year," said Thorn. It does portend a sweeping change in [the] Democratic leadership approach to this industry, and that can only help crypto."

Unprofitable bitcoin miners are starting to exit the network after the halving , as expected. But much of their performance relies on bitcoin's price, which still faces several near-term headwinds, according to JPMorgan. However, "we do not see upside for bitcoin prices in the current juncture and if anything we see headwinds over the near term," he added. That was expected to happen after the halving in April, which slashed a key revenue source for bitcoin miners. "The more bitcoin prices decline the higher the number of unprofitable miners that come under pressure to leave the bitcoin network and the larger the result[ing] decline in the hash rate and bitcoin production cost."

The stock market is in the early stages of a period of rising retail investor activity, and that could bode well for Robinhood Markets , according to Bank of America. The bank double upgraded the online brokerage and financial service provider to buy from underperform on Friday, raising its price target to $24 from $14, implying about 34% upside in the shares. The resurgence of meme mania began late Sunday when " Roaring Kitty ," the man who first ignited the meme stock phenomenon through GameStop in 2021, posted on X for the first time since then. Beyond meme stocks, Weinstein said there's sure to be plenty of volatility in the "foggy" market in the months to come, citing inflation, geopolitics and the upcoming U.S. presidential election. The problem with Ether right now for investors

While the supply of bitcoin is slowing after the halving , the supply of ether is growing at its fastest rate since 2022, according to CryptoQuant – crushing some investor's dreams of ether as an asset that would grow increasingly scarce. The median transaction fee is about 4x lower now that it was before Dencun for the same level of network activity. Some investors had hoped ether could compete with bitcoin, whose rate of supply growth slows every four years after the halving. For many, that idea was a side effect of the primary thesis on Ethereum, which sees it as a growing, scalable transaction network on which to build applications. Network activity would have to increase 3 to 4x to reverse the growing supply trend, if this relationship holds, he said.

"It could take three to five months for bitcoin to re-test recent highs," H.C. Wainwright analyst Mike Colonnese told CNBC. BTC.CM= 3M mountain Bitcoin has fallen 11% this quarter Bitcoin miners offer high beta exposure to bitcoin and have historically outperformed it during bull cycles, he added. Colonnese also pointed out that corrections between 25% and 30% are "par for the course" for bitcoin, even in bull cycles. "Looking at previous price cycles, bitcoin has historically peaked between one to one and a half years after a halving event with the bull stage running longer in each subsequent cycle," Colonnese said. "Assuming a similar duration for this bull stage of the price cycle, bitcoin may not reach its cycle peak until October 2025," Colonnese added.
