Media entrepreneur Byron Allen says he wants to buy Paramount for $14.3 billion. Who wants to buy a big TV company these days, anyway? But investors still think it's worth less than $10 billion — meaning they don't think Allen Media is really going to end up owning Paramount. AdvertisementOne answer may simply be skepticism about Allen Media Group and its owner, TV personality-turned-entrepreneur Byron Allen. But no one, to date, has suggested that Paramount is worth anything close to $14 billion.

When Jon Stewart left "The Daily Show" in 2015, he had a modest but meaningful audience on cable TV. When he comes back next month, he'll find that in his absence, the show's audience has gotten much, much smaller. "The Daily Show's" overall audience has shrunk by 75% — from 2.2 million viewers a night to 570,000. And the age of the audience has skyrocketed because younger viewers are barely watching at all. On Wednesday, when I got these numbers from Nielsen, I asked someone who has spent a lot of time in late-night TV to guess the age of the Daily Show's audience today.

The first votes in the New Hampshire primary have been cast in the township of Dixville Notch. Nikki Haley took 100 percent of the vote, with 100 percent turnout. The polls — or poll, in this case — opened just after the clock struck midnight, as they have here for 64 years, to great fanfare. And 10 minutes later, the voting was done. Ms. Haley’s unanimous victory came as something of a surprise to a first-time Dixville Notch voter, Valerie Maxwell, 54, who works for the resort where the voting was held.

Donald J. Trump, who popularized the term “fake news” and as president declared the news media “the enemy of the people,” is again clashing with journalists over press access, this time to his 2024 campaign events. An NBC News correspondent said on Sunday that aides to Mr. Trump stopped him from covering an event in New Hampshire, where the former president was expected to make his first in-person remarks after Gov. Vaughn Hillyard, a longtime NBC News correspondent who regularly covers Mr. Trump, had planned to attend as a pool reporter representing five major TV networks. But he told other campaign journalists that the Trump team objected to his presence. “After affirming to the campaign that your pooler would attend the events, NBC News was informed at about 2:20 p.m. that the pool would not be allowed to travel with Trump today.”

"It is absolutely ridiculous that my constituents, who already pay for NBC, have to pay even more to watch this game," Ryan wrote in a letter to top NFL and NBC officials. I'm demanding the NFL and NBC stop the BS and offer fans the service they already pay for, or we're coming for your antitrust exemption." "Fans already face exorbitant prices to watch every game during the regular season; they don't deserve to be squeezed even further by greedy corporations," Ryan added. The league added that all the remaining playoff games would be available over the air nationwide, as well as on other platforms. NBC Sports reportedly pays the league more than $2 billion a year for its slice of NFL games.

For an example of how climate change is increasingly becoming a flashpoint in the culture wars, Germany is a good place to start. Right now, the streaming service is offering a discounted Starz add-on subscription for $0.99 per month for 6 months. Hulu one-upped its $1.99 deal from yesteryear by halving that to just $0.99 per month. Like the base Hulu deal, the Starz add-on offer ends at the end of the day on November 28. The original Hulu deal already tops our list of the best Black Friday streaming deals, and this only sends it over the edge. KYIV, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is weighing the pros and cons of a spring 2024 presidential vote, his foreign minister said on Friday, though there are major concerns over how to organise a free and fair vote during war with Russia. Ukraine was scheduled to hold a parliamentary election in October and a presidential vote in March 2024. Kuleba made his comment during an online appearance at the World Policy Conference in the United Arab Emirates when asked whether Ukraine would hold a presidential election in spring. Zelenskiy has said he wants to run for another term if an election happens. Opponents of holding a vote fear Russia would try to derail it while political jockeying would undermine national unity.

Fox Sports drove higher consumption overall for Fox Corporation last quarter, CEO Lachlan Murdoch said Thursday during the company's quarterly earnings call. "FOX Sports was a big driver of that consumption, especially with its broadcast of the Women's World Cup, where the U.S. versus the Netherlands on Fox with the most watched Women's World Cup game match ever on U.S. English language television," Murdoch said. Sports programming costs drove expenses higher, weighing on profit and offsetting revenue growth in the company's TV segment. Fox cited the Women's World Cup and the renewal of National Football League rights as major costs. But it comes with a massive price tag, especially as linear networks and streaming services have begun battling it out for programming rights.

Disney 's (DIS) first-ever breakout of ESPN's financials is another key step in CEO Bob Iger's turnaround for the embattled entertainment giant, displaying a stable top line and plenty of room for growth. For the nine months ended July 1, ESPN delivered $12.56 billion in revenue, according to this week's 8K government filing from Disney. The experiences division, which was basically unchanged in Iger's segment overhaul, had $24.39 billion during the first three quarters of fiscal 2023. Growing losses in Disney's linear TV assets may compel the company to sell all or some of them. We'll look for continued improvement when Disney's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings come out next month.

The reorganization of Disney 's business is giving investors a glimpse at ESPN's financials for the first time. The company is now broken down into three divisions, one of which is an ESPN segment that includes the TV network and ESPN+ streaming service. A part of the fight was Disney's future prospects for ESPN on streaming. Disney plans to make the ESPN channel a direct-to-consumer option outside of the bundle for customers in the future. However, last week, Trian upped its stake in Disney and now a second proxy battle is brewing, CNBC reported.

So while the this fall harvest is surely welcome, as is so often true, a Swift solution isn’t likely to be an enduring one. Advance sales for “The Eras Tour” left little doubt that the event would be a major success, leaving only the precise numbers in doubt. In that sense, the next blonde hero flying to the rescue might be more important: Brie Larson, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, whose sequel “The Marvels” hits theaters on November 10. Australia on Saturday decisively rejected a proposal to recognise Indigenous people in the constitution, in a major setback to the country's efforts for reconciliation with its First Peoples. Nationwide, with 45% of the vote counted, the "No" vote led "Yes" by 57.35% to 42.65%. A successful referendum requires at least four of the six states to vote in favor, along with a national majority. Because of Australia's time zones, voting in Western Australia was still under way as it became clear the referendum was lost. Supporters of the proposal believe entrenching an Indigenous Voice into the constitution would unite Australia and usher in a new era with its Indigenous people.
