So far on Wednesday, the stock market was largely ignoring the morning's inflation report because the main CPI reading was as economists expected. But a look deeper into the report spells trouble for a stock market — and president-elect — that are going to want the Federal Reserve to keep cutting rates throughout next year to keep fueling the bull market. However, in recent months, policymakers have focused more on the headline number, saying shelter costs, which have an outsized influence on core CPI, will come down. But core inflation has remained unusually stubborn, suggesting the Fed may have to hold rates higher than investors were previously anticipating. Core CPI showed a third straight monthly increase of 0.3%, bringing the annual rate to 3.3%.

Deputies responded to the first reported burglary shortly after midnight on October 6 at a home in Loch Lloyd, Missouri, a criminal report from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office states. That home belongs to Mahomes, the Chiefs’ quarterback, CNN affiliates KCTV and KSHB reported. There was no forced entry and “deputies completed an investigation and a report was taken,” according to the criminal report. The home was believed to belong to Kelce, the Chiefs tight end, KCTV said.

"Family offices are being gradually recognized as an economic powerhouse in private markets," according to the report. Last week, KFC accused Church’s Texas Chicken of violating its trademark rights when its fried chicken competitor began using the words “Original Recipe” in its advertising and promotions. KFC claimed in a lawsuit that beginning September 30, it noticed Church’s “abruptly” began using the phrase and ignored KFC’s October 24 letter objecting to the ads. In the disputed promotions, Church’s posted photos of its fried chicken deals with text above reading: “our original recipe is back.”The phrase, which KFC has been using for over half a century, “is likely to create confusion in the marketplace and dilute the ORIGINAL RECIPE® Mark,” the lawsuit, which was filed in US District Court in Texas, said. But when it comes to fried chicken, KFC also has to compete with Church’s Texas Chicken, Popeyes, Raising Cane’s, Zaxby’s and more. KFC’s “Original Recipe” trademark, which it says is a secret blend of 11 herbs and spices, has long been part of the company’s branding.

TOKYO — Lawmakers in Japan voted Monday to retain the embattled Shigeru Ishiba as prime minister despite his long-governing party’s dismal showing in parliamentary elections last month. Ishiba, a straight-talking former defense minister, received 221 votes compared with 160 for Yoshihiko Noda, leader of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party. Many Japanese officials assume Trump is going to be “more straightforwardly anti-China,” and that Japan will be “somehow miraculously left off the hook,” he said. Though Japan has already pledged to double defense spending to 2% of gross domestic product by 2027, “that’s probably not going to be enough to satisfy Trump,” Boling said. While Abe was “extraordinarily skillful” in dealing with Trump, Ishiba has a different personality, Boling said.

New York CNN —Sexist and abusive attacks on women, like “your body, my choice” and “get back to the kitchen,” have surged across social media since Donald Trump’s reelection, according to an analysis from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue. An X post from White nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes last Tuesday night saying, “Your body, my choice. And a number of women on TikTok posted videos saying their comments had been filled with users posting the phrase. “Your body, my choice” is an apparent subversion the phrase “my body, my choice,” which was used by women as a rallying cry in support of reproductive rights. In some cases, X and TikTok users responded to posts saying “your body, my choice” with vague threats of retaliatory violence.

Asia-Pacific markets were set to fall Monday after China's October inflation numbers came in lower than expected, prompting concerns over the recovery in the world's second-largest economy. The country's inflation rate declined to 0.3%, missing expectations of 0.4% and also lower than the 0.4% seen in September. On Monday, China will also kick off its Singles' Day — the equivalent of Black Friday in the country. A note from ING on Friday said that Singles' Day will show how consumption was faring in China. "We suspect that given the shift toward value-for-money purchases and online shopping, we'll continue to see solid growth numbers from the event that should comfortably outpace the overall consumption growth momentum."
