Formula One is a demanding sport, and even more so at the Singapore Grand Prix. The city state's street circuit has long been considered one of the hardest tracks to race on in the F1 calendar, being a street circuit and having one of the hottest climates during the night race. However, McLaren driver Lando Norris is confident of his prospects in the Lion City, after a slew of upgrades to the team's MCL60 car resulted in vastly improved results in the second half of the season. McLaren's upgrade package was implemented across the races in Austria, Britain and Hungary. As the updates were being rolled out, he took two straight second position finishes in Austria and Great Britain, and a fourth in Hungary — picking up 48 points in three races, compared to just 12 points in the first eight races of the season.

Race winner Sergio Perez of Mexico passes his team celebrating during the F1 Grand Prix of Singapore at Marina Bay Street Circuit on October 02, 2022 in SingaporeOrganizers said they will halve energy emissions from the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix by 2028. Singapore GP said last year's event generated 2,372 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, including set up and tear down. Energy use made up 96.1% of total emissions, while the remaining 3.9% came from transport, waste and water. SGP said it aims to use this substitute in half of the circuit park's generators by 2025 and all by 2028. It estimated the switch would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 52%, once fully implemented.

The legal team had initially set a Friday deadline. "The ball is on their court, we've been waiting for their response," said Viana, a partner at law firm Vieira Rezende Advogados. His lawyers want Hamilton, who was racing for McLaren at the time to support the claims. He is an honorary Brazilian citizen and very well liked by Brazilians, so I hope he will support us," Viana said. Despite that, Viana said Massa's legal team were confident they had a strong case and enough evidence to bring the Brazilian the championship.

CNN —Max Verstappen further cemented his status as the dominant driver of his generation with a historic victory at the Italian Grand Prix, his 10th consecutive race win. No Formula One driver has ever won as many races in a row in a season. The Red Bull driver had matched the previous all-time record of nine, set by Sebastian Vettel 10 years ago, at last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix. Victory at Monza was Verstappen’s 12th of the year and increases the likelihood of Red Bull becoming the first F1 team to win every race in a season. “I never would’ve believed that that was possible,” the Dutchman said after the race on the ESPN broadcast when asked about the record.

Vasseur wary of commenting on Massa's legal claim

Lawyers for Brazilian Massa last week notified Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali and Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the governing FIA, of the intent to claim compensation. An FIA spokesperson last week acknowledged receipt of "correspondence" from Massa's representatives and said the matter was under review. The scandal, widely known as 'Crashgate', did not emerge until a year later and led to Renault team bosses being banned. Vasseur said teams wanted to know the result of races at the chequered flag and not after the podium celebrations had happened. The Frenchman, who was Renault team boss in 2016, took over at Ferrari in January and was not in Formula One in 2008.

"Simply put, Mr Massa is the rightful 2008 Driver's Champion, and F1 and FIA deliberately ignored the misconduct that cheated him out of that title," said the letter. There was no immediate response from the FIA and Formula One, which is currently on an August shutdown. PIQUET CRASHMassa was leading the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix from pole position when fellow Brazilian Piquet crashed into the wall on lap 14 of 61. The lawyers' letter warned that, without a satisfactory response, Massa intended to "pursue legal action in order to seek compensation for the harm he has suffered." Massa did not win again after 2008, with the Brazilian suffering a near-fatal head injury at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix.

CNN —Organizers of the ‘F1 in Schools’ competition say the Netflix ‘Drive to Survive’ effect is reaching the classroom with a record number of teams entered in this year’s finals in Singapore in September. “There’s 68% girls in Saudi doing it and three (Saudi) teams coming with a majority of girls,” said Denford. The program launched in Britain in 2000 with eight schools in Wakefield and now has more than 28,000 educational institutions involved worldwide. At the youngest level, kids start at the age of nine with paper cars powered by bicycle pumps. In the top 11-19 age bracket, the cars are carved from a block of balsa wood and powered by a gas canister.

F1 stewards exempt Hamilton after 'disfigurement' fear
  + stars: | 2023-03-03 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
MANAMA, March 3 (Reuters) - Formula One stewards exempted Lewis Hamilton from a jewellery ban at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on Friday after accepting he risked disfigurement if a nose piercing was removed. Hamilton, 38, has worn a permanent nose stud in his left nostril for years and photographs in Bahrain have shown him also with one on the right. He explained at last October's Singapore Grand Prix, when he was also given an exemption, that taking the left one out had caused the piercing to become infected. The stewards in Bahrain said in a statement they had consulted the FIA medical delegate who examined Hamilton and agreed with the request for a continued exemption. "We have determined to take no further action as there are concerns about disfigurement with frequent attempts at removal of the device," the stewards explained.
The delivery and quality of the live broadcast experience are now more vital than ever. Broadcast connectivity partner Tata Communications leveraged its substantial expertise to rise to the challenge. "The brilliance of the F1 broadcast is that the viewer never has to think about the technology. Aside from F1, Tata Communications also partners with numerous other sports and entertainment franchises. Tata Communications' new broadcast model has delivered around a 34% reduction in the organization's travelling freight, which has lessened the environmental impact.
The Austrian billionaire saw the potential in a Thai energy drink before investing in Red Bull. The Austrian co-founded the energy drink in 1984 after seeing the potential in another energy drink created by Thai investor Chaleo Yoovidhya, who became his cofounder. Just over 9.8 billion cans of Red Bull were sold last year, 24% more than in 2020, with revenue jumping by almost a quarter to 7.8 billion euros. Through Red Bull, Mateschitz also owned football clubs including Austria's Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bull, and RasenBallsport Leipzig. Red Bull also sponsors sports such as surfing, cliff diving, winter sports, and mountain biking and hundreds of competitors display its branding.
CNN —Lewis Hamilton’s team Mercedes has been fined $24,500 (€25,000) after the seven-time world champion was unable to take out his nose stud at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Brit, who has multiple piercings, was called in by stewards ahead of qualifying on Saturday after wearing the piece of jewelry. Mercedes, though, was handed a fine for submitting incorrect paperwork which stated Hamilton was in compliance with the jewelry ban. “I’ve had my jewelry and my nose stud for years and, obviously, we had that whole commotion at the beginning of the year. He says officials had previously explained that the nose stud was dangerous because of the way metal would conduct heat if a fire broke out in the car.
