But McAfee declined an effort by Chesebro and Powell to separate their cases from each other, meaning they are both set to head to the same trial on Oct. 23. The ruling is a blow to Georgia prosecutors who wanted to keep all 19 co-defendants together in the case. A 58-year-old man was killed and another man is missing after they were struck by an avalanche in the north-central Rocky Mountains on Saturday, authorities in Colorado said. The missing man did not have an avalanche transceiver, the avalanche center said. The Tampa Police Department announced it had terminated an officer Tuesday following an internal investigation into a video where he was seen dragging a woman into jail. Interim Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said Damon's actions were "unacceptable and are not tolerated at this department." Supervisors at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the agency which manages the jail, referred Damon's actions to Tampa Police's standards bureau. Three former Georgia sheriff's deputies were arrested and charged for allegedly beating a Black inmate in a videotaped September attack that "shocked the conscience," authorities said Tuesday. The arrests come a week after attorneys for inmate Jarrett Hobbs released several videos showing deputies allegedly beating him on Sept. 3 at the Camden County Jail in Woodbine. The man who killed his estranged wife, a Dallas medical examiner, inside her office before turning the gun on himself, was identified as a former college basketball player, authorities said Friday. James "Jed" Frost, who played at the University of Missouri in the early 1990s, fatally shot his wife, Dr. Beth Ellen Frost, on Tuesday afternoon inside her office at the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office, officials said.
