SPRING THINGS Among the top trends from the spring 2024 fashion shows was workwear-inspired fashion, like the outfits above. “IT’S NICE to feel calm sometimes,” said Luke Meier who, along with his wife, Lucie, designs Jil Sander. Their sterile Milan showspace had been made a sanctuary, with sunshine filtered through legions of white paper strips hung from the skylight. Guests in attendance seemed visibly soothed, as if waiting to ascend into heaven, or at least lounging in a five-star spa. This sense of ease pervaded spring’s best shows and clothes, which shirked recent seasons’ gimmicks, flash and frippery and instead brought women feel-good outfits for everyday.

CNN —This week, by far the most feverishly discussed outfit didn’t come from a member of the Kardashian clan or an off-duty model. Instead, it was Kristina Avakyan (known on TikTok as @subwaysessions), a New York resident who pushed the boundaries of style with a look that was anything but average. In a TikTok that’s now been watched over 1.9 million times, Avakyan paces across her runway (the 6 train subway platform) in what has become a deeply polarizing outfit. The outfit has been seen over 1.9 million times on TikTok and 62 million times on Twitter this week. The phrase “#personalstyle” has more than 858 million views on TikTok, and in 2022 the New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman wrote about how to capture it.

Sinner became a brand ambassador for Gucci last year. The next generation of tennis players are even experimenting with jewelry: Russian player Andrey Rublev is known to layer several silver pendants, while Nick Kyrgios is rarely seen without his double hoop earrings. Permission for the highly-engineered moment was granted after a lengthy approval process involving the International Tennis Federation, Association of Tennis Professionals and Wimbledon. For a brief moment, after Celine canceled its men’s wear show in Paris because of the recent unrest in France, there were concerns about whether last week’s couture shows would go as planned. Thom Browne, for his debut couture show, turned an opera house into a wonderland full of fantastical suiting. Valentino showed ethereal gowns against the backdrop of the Château de Chantilly, a palatial property outside Paris and one of the most extraordinary venues I’ve ever photographed. In the crowds outside the shows, there was noticeably less peacocking. Others traded boxy clothes, which have dominated the style of guests and fans in recent years, for pieces with softer, more fluid silhouettes.
