Ron DeSantis said state Republican Party Chairman Christian Ziegler should resign while police investigate a rape allegation against him. DeSantis is running for president, and the state GOP is working to reelect U.S. Sen. Rick Scott. Florida was also key to Republicans winning a slim majority in the U.S. House in 2022, and the party will be defending the newly won seats. Ziegler took over the party in February, three months after DeSantis was reelected in a landslide in an election where Florida was one of the few bright spots for Republicans nationally. The study estimated babies' life expectancy if mortality conditions when they were born were to persist throughout their lives. "There were positive outcomes all around ... all the groups by race and sex experienced increases in life expectancy," Arias said. Life expectancy increased by 1 year for Asian non-Hispanic infants to 84.5 years, and by 0.8 year for White non-Hispanic babies to 77.5. In all groups, previous declines in mortality due to COVID explained more than 80% of the increases in life expectancy, according to the report. Declines in deaths from heart disease, unintentional injuries, cancer, and homicide also contributed to longer life expectancy overall, but their impact varied.

NEW YORK (AP) — Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows is being sued by his publisher for contradicting his book's claim about the the 2020 election. In a breach of contract lawsuit filed Friday in Florida, All Seasons cited media reports from last month alleging that Meadows knew Trump had lost to Democrat Joe Biden. “Meadows’ reported statements to the Special Prosecutor and/or his staff and his reported grand jury testimony squarely contradict the statements” in “The Chief's Chief,” according to the lawsuit, filed in Sarasota, Florida. “If such media reports are accurate, Meadows testified under oath that his book contains known falsehoods,” All Seasons alleged in its breach of contract suit. The All Seasons case is unusual both because it's based on media reports, not direct knowledge of Meadows' testimony, and because it's based on alleged factual errors.

"If such media reports are accurate, Meadows testified under oath that his Book contains known falsehoods," Meadows' publisher All Seasons Press says in its suit in Sarasota County court in Florida. Instead, Meadows "chose to emphasize events from the 2020 presidential election through the January 6th Attack." "One of the Book's primary theses is that President Trump was the true winner of the 2020 Presidential Election and that the election was stolen by President Biden through widespread election fraud," the suit says. In another part of the book, Meadows wrote that Trump was "absolutely correct" in claiming that he did not lose the election. A day after that report, CBS News reported that Meadows was "extensively cooperating with" Smith's election interference probe of Trump.
