Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg speaks during a news conference at his office in New York City on Feb. 22, 2024. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Thursday told a judge that he does not oppose postponing the start of the criminal hush money trial of former President Donald Trump by up to 30 days. The DA told Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan that his prosecution team is prepared to start Trump's trial on March 25 as currently scheduled. Another production of documents from federal prosecutors is due next week, Bragg said. Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement that Bragg agreed to a delay "after conceding serious discovery violations."

“He views himself as a big guy,” John Bolton, who served as national security adviser under Trump, told me. Trump lamented that Hitler, as Kelly recounted, maintained his senior staff’s “loyalty,” while Trump himself often did not. “He truly believed, when he brought us generals in, that we would be loyal — that we would do anything he wanted us to do,” Kelly told me. ‘Shocked that he didn’t have dictatorial-type powers’Trump’s former advisers say he most consistently lavished praise on Russian President Vladimir Putin. A New York judge on Thursday rejected a bid by Donald Trump to delay a $83.3 million civil defamation judgment in favor of writer E. Jean Carroll. Trump had asked Manhattan federal court Judge Lewis Kaplan to pause the latest Carroll case judgment until after he rules on post-trial motions. He later posted $5.6 million in cash as collateral while he appealed the jury verdict ordering him to pay her $5 million in that case. Trump last month was ordered by a state court judge to pay a $454 million judgment in a civil business fraud lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James. But that soon could change if an appeals court declines to stay the judgment.

The cost for a chance to pose in a photo with all three Democratic presidents at once? It's also the only time that three [Democratic] presidents have done a [campaign] fundraiser together." Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison, Biden campaign fundraisers Michael Pratt and Colleen Coffey and Biden campaign finance chair Rufus Gifford have all been instrumental, he said. "For people who are involved in politics, for people who love politics, the opportunity to be with the last three Democratic presidents … is something that's unique. "It's no surprise the three Democrat stooges who have brought untold destruction to America are united by that misery," Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said.

AdvertisementBut former attorneys for Trump told The New York Times that his usual demeanor won't fly in a criminal trial — or, in Trump's case, his four criminal trials. "I would expect Trump to try to act up," former White House attorney Ty Cobb, who worked under Trump, told the Times. He and his criminal defense attorneys, Susan R. Necheles and Todd Blanche, must also avoid annoying the judge. However, it seems they have already succeeded in doing the complete opposite during a February hearing to set a date for the hush money trial. Judge Juan Merchan, overseeing the case, insisted that the attorneys stop mentioning Trump's schedule as a reason to delay the trial.

Republicans are rallying around IVF access after a controversial Alabama Supreme Court ruling. The issue has been further fueled by a House bill to recognize human life at fertilization. Democratic candidate Elissa Slotkin, who is running against Rogers for Senate, pointed out that Rogers has co-sponsored four bills with similar language to the House bill while in Congress. President Joe Biden's campaign and Vice President Kamala Harris have also lobbed criticism regarding the Alabama Supreme Court decision, specifically calling out Trump. What’s happening in Alabama is a direct result of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.

Mr. Trump, even as he seeks to bring the Republican Party fully on board with his renomination, faces significant questions about the political and financial impact of his many legal troubles. For one thing, both Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden are raising money through joint fund-raising committees, which do not have to file reports until April. Mr. Trump, on the other hand, is still fending off a primary challenger, Nikki Haley. And, perhaps more critically, committees backing Mr. Trump are spending millions each month on legal expenses. Mr. Trump faces four criminal indictments along with civil cases, which are proving costly.

Trump had a Thursday deadline to file a petition at the Supreme Court contesting an appeals court decision from December that rejected his immunity arguments, but he did not do so. The appeals court made it clear that Trump could still claim immunity later in the proceedings in three cases brought by Capitol Police officers and members of Congress. "President Trump will continue to fight for presidential immunity all across the spectrum," said Steven Cheung, a Trump spokesman. The civil lawsuits against Trump are separate from the criminal case against him that also arose from Jan. 6. The court instead assumed that they likely were official acts and found that, even then, Trump could not claim immunity.

Former President Donald Trump does not have presidential immunity from prosecution on criminal charges related to his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, a federal appeals court unanimously ruled Tuesday. The ruling is the latest major legal loss for Trump, who is the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination. "For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant," the panel wrote in the 57-page opinion. Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung decried the ruling, claiming in a statement that without "complete" presidential immunity, "every future President who leaves office will be immediately indicted by the opposing party." He added, "President Trump respectfully disagrees with the DC Circuit's decision and will appeal it in order to safeguard the Presidency and the Constitution."

Circuit holds that Trump cannot invoke immunity as a defense against charges connected to his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and a violent insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. “For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant,” the panel’s ruling states. “The Indictment charges that former President Trump violated criminal laws of general applicability,” the opinion states. The panel ruling was unanimous and effectively bipartisan, with Democratic- and Republican-appointed judges in agreement. Such an appeal would continue a stay of the panel’s ruling until the high court acted.

Off the trail on Friday, Ms. Haley assailed Mr. Trump as “unhinged” on Fox News as she continued to try and bait him into a one-on-one debate. The presidential primary features Ms. Haley on the ballot, but won’t count toward the G.O.P. The caucuses feature Mr. Trump without a single major competitor — and that’s the contest that will determine who gets the state’s delegate prize. Critics have argued that the state party set up the caucuses to benefit Mr. Trump — which the party denies. The former president and his team were hoping his showing there would persuade Ms. Haley to end her campaign.

Former President Donald J. Trump, long the dominant front-runner in the Republican nominating contest, has made it clear for months that he is itching to focus on a likely general election matchup between him and President Biden. On Saturday, he’ll campaign in Nevada, a critical battleground state. Special Counsel Jack Smith delivers remarks on a recently unsealed indictment alleging four felony counts against former U.S. President Donald Trump, in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 1, 2023. A federal judge on Thursday rejected an effort by former President Donald Trump to hold special counsel Jack Smith in contempt for submitting court filings in Trump's criminal election interference case while the case is paused. The order to stay the case pending Trump's appeal of an unfavorable ruling "did not clearly and unambiguously prohibit" Smith's actions, Judge Tanya Chutkan wrote in a Washington, D.C., federal court order. But Chutkan granted Trump's request that Smith and other parties must get her permission before filing any more pretrial motions. Trump spokesman Steven Cheung in a statement characterized that decision as a "strong rebuke" of Smith.

Tacopina isn't the first lawyer to quit Trump's team amid the former president's legal battles. By Hannah Lang(Reuters) - Joseph Tacopina, an attorney on former U.S. President Donald Trump's legal team, on Monday said he will no longer represent him in a criminal case in Manhattan related to alleged hush money payments or a separate appeal of a civil case. Trump has pled not guilty to the charges, and will face a trial this year, although the timing is uncertain. Asked about Tacopina's shift, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung told Reuters, "President Trump has the most experienced, qualified, disciplined, and overall strongest legal team ever assembled as he continues to fight for America and Americans against these partisan, Crooked Joe Biden-led election interference hoaxes." Tacopina is one of several Trump lawyers to have stopped representing him in ongoing cases. At least three members of his legal team in Florida stepped down after Trump was indicted in June on charges he unlawfully kept national-security documents when he left office.

The Biden campaign slammed former President Donald Trump for echoing Nazi sentiments with his repeated statements on Saturday night that immigrants are "poisoning the blood" of the United States. The Republican frontrunner most recently repeated the anti-immigrant remarks at a New Hampshire rally and in a Truth Social post Saturday night. "President Trump gave a great speech," Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said about the former president's remarks. Trump's inflammatory comments come as Republican hard-liners in Congress refuse to pass a Ukraine-Israel aid package until Democrats agree to stricter border policies. After Republicans voted to block Ukraine aid, Biden quoted a Kremlin propagandist saying, "Well done, Republicans!
