New technology and new companies are working on turning ammonia into hydrogen to power tractors, trucks and even ships. The technology enables the on-board "cracking" (or decomposition) of ammonia into hydrogen, which is then sent into a fuel cell to power a vehicle. "We are partnering a lot with industry stakeholders in shipping and heavy manufacturing in heavy industries. One of Amogy's investors, Saudi Aramco, is the largest petroleum producer in the world, but sees ammonia as part of its future. In addition to Saudi Aramco, Amogy is backed by Amazon 's Climate Pledge Fund, AP Ventures, SK Innovation and DCVC.
Despite layoff announcements and signs of a slowdown elsewhere in the economy, the labor market for clean energy jobs remains tight. said Abigail Ross Hopper, president of the Solar Energy Industries Association trade group. The Biden Administration has repeatedly promised that new green energy jobs would be well-paying union jobs. Some solar companies have tried to recruit veterans, saying the skills learned in military life translate well to the industry. Utility scale solar developer SOLV Energy, SunPower and Nextracker last year teamed up with nonprofit Solar Energy International to fund a women-only training program for solar installers.

"After signing the MoU in March 2022, we have been discussing the joint venture case in Turkey, but discussions have not been completed. The final decision whether or not to halt negotiations regarding the joint venture has not been made yet," SK On said in a statement. SK On is the wholly owned battery unit of SK Innovation Co Ltd (096770.KS), and counts Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS), Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE) and Ford Motor among its customers. In announcing the joint venture plans in March, SK On said the partners aimed for annual production capacity of 30-45 gigawatt hours (GWh) with production starting in 2025.
Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) and EV startup Rivian (RIVN.O) also have announced plans to use LFP batteries. LFP batteries can be produced at lower cost, but deliver less range than comparable nickel-cobalt EV batteries. LFP batteries made in China can have a 20% cost advantage over nickel cobalt batteries. Battery makers and automakers are expanding EV battery capacity globally, and some industry analysts have questioned whether that could result in oversupply. Raising the capital required to fund investments in capacity and new chemistries is one of SK On's main challenges, Lee said.

"We need to establish a rule of law between labour and management," Yoon said on Monday, according to the presidential office. Yoon will personally preside over a cabinet meeting on Tuesday which will consider a 'work force order' demanding striking truckers return to their jobs, his office said. According to South Korean law, during a serious disruption to transport the government may issue an order to force transport workers back to their jobs. While stations secured inventory before the strike, about 80% of truckers for major refiners such as SK Innovation's (096770.KS) SK Energy and S-Oil Corp (010950.KS) are striking union members.
DETROIT – Ford Motor is attempting to build as many of its own parts as possible for its electric vehicles to offset an expected 40% reduction in workers needed to build such cars and trucks, CEO Jim Farley said Tuesday. In addition to making sense for the business, he said retaining the jobs and workforce is another reason Ford wants to build more parts in-house rather than purchasing them from suppliers. Ford is building twin lithium-ion battery plants in central Kentucky through a joint venture with South Korea-based SK Innovation, called BlueOvalSK, as well as a massive 3,600-acre campus in west Tennessee. Farley said the company would be "thrilled" to have union representation at its upcoming battery plants. The comments come as the United Auto Workers union is attempting to organize a joint-venture battery plant between General Motors and LG Energy Solution in Ohio.
REUTERS/Andrew KellySEOUL/WASHINGTON, Nov 9 (Reuters) - South Korean battery makers have urged the U.S. government to factor in realities of a complex supply chain for the industry and not hold the sector to "impossible requirements" ahead of the implementation of new U.S. EV tax credit rules. LG Energy Solution Ltd (LGES) (373220.KS), SK Innovation's (096770.KS) SK On and Samsung SDI Co Ltd (006400.KS) expressed their concerns about the electric vehicle tax credit rules in comments submitted to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS). LGES added in its comment that transforming the supply chain cannot occur "overnight" and urged the United States not to hold the industry to "impossible requirements and timelines". Such market distortions could create artificial costs and barriers along the supply chain," SK On said. Samsung SDI also urged the United States to implement rules that allow flexibility to meet supply chain requirements, adding that automotive supply chain contracts often last several years.
Morgan Stanley expects shares in Asian battery component maker L & F Co to rally by 81% by the end of next year. Morgan Stanley maintained its price target and rating on the stock despite the delays to the U.S. joint venture. L & F, which also supplies battery materials to SK Innovation, LG, and Samsung , said it intends to resubmit its application to the South Korean government in the fourth quarter. Equity analysts at Jefferies have a buy rating and 370,000-won price target on the stock, implying a 67% upside. "L & F team has not seen any order slowing from key end customer (TSLA) and expects a continued sequential increase in the next two quarters," Kown said in a note to clients on Oct. 16.
SEOUL, Nov 3 (Reuters) - SK Innovation Co Ltd (096770.KS), the owner of South Korea's top oil refiner SK Energy, said on Thursday it expects a gradual recovery in refining margins this quarter as stronger Western sanctions on Russia and the winter season push up fuel demand. However, the company said margins will likely remain not far from third-quarter levels due to global recession worries. SK Innovation's operating profit rose to 704 billion won ($493 million) in the July-September period from 669 billion won a year earlier, it said. Revenue rose 82% to 22.8 trillion won, beating an average analyst estimate of 19.8 trillion won according to Refinitiv SmartEstimate. SK Innovation shares were trading up 0.8% in morning trade, versus a 0.6% fall in the broader KOSPI (.KS11).
"We believe it's unfair," he added, pointing out that none of the South Korean automaker's EVs qualify for the credit. Munoz said U.S. legislators should offer companies investing in the United States some type of waiver or a longer transition period. Automakers are trying to figure out how their vehicles will meet the new law's requirements to qualify for EV tax credits. Details of the act are still being ironed out and the U.S. Treasury is currently taking comments on how to implement the rules around the EV tax credits. "We're pretty well positioned," he said at the Reuters conference, citing the Detroit automaker's four U.S. battery plants the company has announced and its raw materials supply deals.
