Seven people have now died in fires in Portugal since Sunday, including three firefighters, whose vehicle burst into flames on Tuesday. At least 17 have been killed in what authorities have called the worst floods to hit central and eastern Europe in decades. SHANGHAI — The normally bustling financial hub of Shanghai was brought to a standstill Monday as residents sheltered at home to wait out the worst of Typhoon Bebinca. The Category 1 storm, which made landfall in Shanghai on Monday morning, is the most powerful tropical cyclone to directly hit the city in more than seven decades. Packing top wind speeds of 94 miles per hour near its eye, Bebinca landed in the city of nearly 25 million around 7:30 a.m. (7:30 p.m. Sunday ET), state media reported, the strongest storm to strike Shanghai since Typhoon Gloria in 1949. Resorts in Shanghai, including Shanghai Disney Resort, Jinjiang Amusement Park and Shanghai Wild Animal Park, have been temporarily closed and many ferries halted. Rivers overflowed from Poland to Romania, where four people were found dead on Saturday, after days of torrential rain in a low-pressure system named Boris. Some parts of the Czech Republic and Poland faced the worst flooding in almost three decades as towns evacuated thousands. HANOI, Vietnam — A flash flood swept away an entire hamlet in northern Vietnam, killing 22 people and leaving dozens missing as deaths from a typhoon and its aftermath climbed to 141 on Wednesday. Vietnamese state broadcaster VTV said the torrent of water gushing down from a mountain in Lao Cai province Tuesday buried Lang Nu hamlet with 35 families in mud and debris. Floods and landslides have caused most of the deaths, many of which have come in the northwestern province of Lao Cai, bordering China, where Lang Nu is located. Authorities have called for that group of businesses within Google — which is distinct from Google’s search or search ads business — to be broken up. Factoring in those other sources of competition drops Google’s share of the ad exchange market from 34% to 17%, said Dunn, Google’s attorney. Still, a breakup of Google’s ad tech business could potentially trigger a shakeup of the digital advertising industry and Google’s role within it.
