Fans will pump air through the alkaline stream, which causes carbon dioxide to form solid calcium carbonate, the material from which seashells are formed, which will look like a fine sand, as well as dissolved bicarbonate. The seawater will also be sent back into the sea, ready to absorb more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The ambition is to scale up to 100,000 metric tons of CO2 removal a year by the end of 2026, and from there to millions of metric tons over the next few decades, Sanders told CNN. Equatic has already signed a deal with Boeing to sell it 2,100 metric tons of hydrogen, which it plans to use to create green fuel, and to fund the removal of 62,000 metric tons of CO2. It will remove just under 4,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide a year, with the aim of scaling up to 100,000 metric tons a year by the end of 2026.

CNN —It’s 420 or “weed day,” and people around the world will be paying homage to their favorite guilty pleasure: marijuana. “I worry when people are in an enclosed space because new data is beginning to show that secondhand marijuana smoke may be just as dangerous as the primary smoke,” Page said. “Approximately 3 in 10 people who use marijuana have marijuana use disorder,” according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In fact, some parents told doctors they believed vaping marijuana was safer than tobacco, Boyd told CNN earlier via email. In this week’s mammoth New York trial of former President Donald Trump on charges of falsifying business records in connection to hush money paid to an adult film star, the yawning gap between “Us” and “Them” is along partisan lines. After all, making hush money payments, as Trump is alleged to have done with former adult film actress Stormy Daniels, isn’t illegal. For decades, Trump has been a fixture on our airwaves, social media sites and political coverage. But they didn’t, and now many are feeling a rally-round-the-flag effect in what is likely the first and potentially only Trump criminal case that’s going to trial before Election Day. Bragg’s decision to bring this case, with its attenuated connection to an actual crime, can’t be taken out of its political context.

Washington CNN —On Tuesday, late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel delivered another monologue making fun of former President Donald Trump. On Wednesday morning, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee fired back on social media — in part by attacking Kimmel for something Kimmel didn’t do. Kimmel wasn’t the person who delivered an unusual, abrupt performance in announcing the Best Picture award won by “Oppenheimer”; that was actually legendary actor Al Pacino, whom Kimmel had introduced. “In fairness to our former President, many stable geniuses confuse me with Al Pacino….,” Kimmel wrote Wednesday afternoon on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The presidential campaigns of Trump and President Joe Biden have traded barbs about each candidate’s verbal slip-ups; the Biden campaign mocked Trump on social media for this latest error.

Trian claims Disney's board has failed to generate sufficient returns in recent years as subscription streaming losses have mounted and traditional TV subscribers have declined. One thing that is definitely not "cool," it seems, is having a green text bubble. In the filing, it says people without Apple devices often feel a "social stigma, exclusion, and blame for 'breaking' chats where other participants own iPhones." "Brands that have a really well-established image, Apple's cool image, for instance, that they worked on to establish over the years — consumers really see that as a legitimate signal of their own coolness to themselves and other people." Consumers really care about using products and brands to express who they are to themselves and the world around them. And if you've ever watched "Ted Lasso" or anything else on Apple TV+, you've perhaps noticed iPhones and Apple products are ubiquitous.

A majority of Americans say they can't afford a $1,000 emergency expense, a recent report from Bankrate finds. Only 44% of Americans surveyed said they could use their savings to pay for an unexpected expense, instead opting to put it on a credit card or borrow cash from family or friends. "The reality is that we are, unfortunately, essentially living in a paycheck-to-paycheck nation," Bankrate senior economic analyst Mark Hamrick tells CNBC Make It. Unexpected economic events that occurred in quick succession over the past five years, from the fallout over the pandemic to high inflation, have shocked the personal finances of many Americans, says Hamrick. No matter how much you have saved up, economic conditions make now an ideal time to focus on building up your emergency savings, Hamrick says.

Facial recognition frequently misidentifies people of colorMIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini found that facial recognition technology misidentified black women up to 35% of the time, the New York Times reported in 2018. When fewer photos of people from other racial and gender groups are used, facial recognition tech is less accurate at identifying people of those backgrounds, the study said. In some cases, it's possible to opt out of using facial recognition technology — and its high error rate. But sidestepping facial recognition often isn't possible, said Gideon Christian, a law professor at the University of Calgary who has written about the legal and societal aspects of facial recognition technology. CNN —President Joe Biden tried to put voters’ concerns about his age to rest last week with a fiery State of the Union address. In many respects, the damage to Biden was already done by the release of Hur’s report last month. Biden has gamely sought to defuse the age issue, often joking about being aware of his own limitations and contrasting himself favorably with Trump. And the transcript provided more details that provided some added context behind the initial picture painted by Hur’s report. Biden’s age clearly remains his biggest political vulnerability and a key factor in the race.

CNN —“Ireland, we are at war,” UFC star Conor McGregor declared to his millions of social media followers on November 22, 2023. A working-class boy from Dublin, McGregor was driven by a desire to become world champion in a sport relatively unknown in Ireland. Political analysts and far-right experts have told CNN that McGregor’s unique brand of Irish patriotism that won him supporters as a fighter has mutated into a strand of “far-right” Irish nationalism.
