The FiveThirtyEight Senate projection is dead even, giving both Republicans and Democrats 50% chances of winning control. The "unprecedented" haul demonstrates "deep grassroots enthusiasm" for Fetterman, his campaign said. "It's clear that the people of Pennsylvania have John's back in this race," Fetterman campaign manager Brendan McPhillips said in a press release announcing the post-debate fundraising windfall. Democrats running in some of the country's closest Senate races headed into the final weeks of their campaigns with a cash edge over their Republican rivals, according to newly released Federal Election Commission records. While Democratic candidates have outraised Republicans in many of the most important Senate races, outside GOP groups such as the Mitch McConnell-aligned Senate Leadership Fund have helped to close the gap. Fetterman leads GOP candidate Mehmet Oz by more than 3 percentage points, according to RealClearPolitics. Warnock also leads Republican Herschel Walker by an average of about 3 percentage points, according to the site. The Nevada incumbent trails Republican Adam Laxalt by an average of just under 2 percentage points, according to RealClearPolitics.

While Friday night’s debate was entirely civil, the two candidates displayed the clear differences between them on major issues. Michels claimed “illegal voting did happen in the last election” despite no evidence widespread fraud occurred. Throughout the Republican primary race, Michels repeatedly said there was fraud in the 2020 election, echoing Trump’s disproven claims. Evers and Michels are locked in a tight race. The latest Marquette Law School poll, released Wednesday, showed Evers slightly leading Michels among likely voters, 47% to 46% — within the margin of error.

Oz said he supports Biden’s decision to clear the records of ex-convicts who were in federal prison solely on charges of simple marijuana possession, a rare area of agreement with Biden and Fetterman. “I really think judges should be empowered to make the difficult decisions, and they generally do it well,” Oz said. On abortion, Oz reiterated that he opposes the procedure except in cases of rape, incest or risk to the life of the woman. “Being released from prison, especially if you’ve been sentenced to life in prison, it’s a whole different game,” he said.
