In addition to the records, the House Democrats asked Yaccarino and Musk to detail how X plans to address Hamas-related content currently on the platform. The already "inexcusable" issue of antisemitic content on X, they wrote, had become "outright indefensible" since the deadly Oct. 7 terror attack in Israel by Hamas militants. More than two dozen House Democrats on Tuesday accused Elon Musk 's X of "profiting off violent content by a terrorist organization" and demanded that he and CEO Linda Yaccarino address Hamas -related content on the social media platform . "You have said the actual truth," Musk wrote last Wednesday in response to that post. Instead, the Democrats highlighted numerous X accounts that have reportedly been "spreading Hamas terrorist propaganda videos glorifying barbaric acts of violence against Israelis."

Democrats accuse X of profiting from Hamas propaganda

Washington CNN —A group of House Democrats has accused X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, of profiting from Hamas propaganda and misinformation about the Israel-Hamas war after reports by independent researchers found numerous accounts glorifying the US-sanctioned terror group. More than two dozen US lawmakers signed the letter dated Tuesday addressed to X owner Elon Musk and CEO Linda Yaccarino. Musk sued Media Matters on Monday, accusing it of distorting the likelihood that ads may be shown against extremist material. But some legal critics have cast doubt on the complaint, calling it “weak” and “bogus” in the face of the First Amendment. The letter calls for Yaccarino and Musk to answer by December 1 to allegations that X has amplified terrorist propaganda in violation of its own policies.

(AP) — Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis is refusing to condemn Elon Musk 's post endorsing an antisemitic conspiracy theory, maintaining Sunday that he wasn't familiar with the post despite it prompting major companies to pull advertising from the billionaire's X social media platform. “You have said the actual truth,” Musk tweeted in a reply Wednesday. “State of the Union” put Musk's post on the screen and host Jake Tapper read it to DeSantis before pressing him to condemn it — but the governor continued to demur. I have no idea what the context is,” said DeSantis who was joining the show via videoconference . “I know Elon Musk.

CNN —Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis on Sunday refused to directly condemn Elon Musk for publicly endorsing an antisemitic conspiracy theory popular among White supremacists. The X post, which Tapper showed DeSantis, said: “Jewish communties (sic) have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.” The post also referenced “hordes of minorities” flooding Western countries, a popular antisemitic conspiracy theory. The Council on American-Islamic Relations has also seen an uptick in reports following the attack, but it did not have numbers to release. Pressed by Tapper again on Musk’s tweet, DeSantis maintained: “I have no idea what the context is.”“I know Elon Musk, I’ve never seen him do anything. AI Assistants Could Take the Drudgery out of Law
  + stars: | 2023-11-12 | by ( ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
Photo: Getty Images/iStockphotoBruce Pandolfini and Max Raskin correctly point out that AI may overtake significant aspects of lawyers’ and artists’ jobs (“AI Won’t Stop People From Playing Games,” op-ed, Nov. 2). But AI will likely make better lawyers, better artists and better humans. As a lawyer, I see AI overtaking some of the drudgery of the legal profession, liberating me to do more creative and client-focused tasks. For artists, AI could act as an assistant in a master’s workshop, similar to how Raphael relied on secondary artists in his workshop. I hope that AI will help us spark new ideas, collaborations and conversations offline.

The comments ricocheted across the House Democratic Caucus – especially for the 15 House Democrats who didn’t vote for it, all of them members of color, some of them Muslim-Americans. An array of House Democrats are pushing unequivocal support for Israel, while a number of progressives have grown increasingly critical of the offensive impacting Palestinian civilians and are upping pressure on the Biden administration to call for a ceasefire. And he is also dealing with a push by Jewish House members to have a more prominent seat at the leadership table. Democrats say the divide is being reflected in their states – and is hurting the president. At a news conference last week, Jeffries was asked about a six-figure ad buy from the Democratic Majority for Israel, a pro-Israel group, criticizing Tlaib.

In recent days, Comer has said in media appearances that subpoenas for Biden family members are “imminent.”The end of the inquiry is still likely months away. They did, however, secure an interview with the special counsel overseeing the Hunter Biden criminal probe, David Weiss, for Tuesday, which is unprecedented given that the case is ongoing. At every turn, House Democrats and the White House have dismissed the allegations against the president and poked holes in the Republican-led investigation. “The subpoenas to Hunter Biden and other members of the Biden family should have already happened,” Gaetz told CNN. “We’ll see what comes out.”Even members involved in the inquiry know that the evidence doesn’t clear the key hurdles needed to move forward.

It’s also a clear sign that the gun safety movement needs to get to work reforming the Supreme Court. Regardless of how Rahimi is decided, the Supreme Court has already done enormous damage to our ability to keep Americans safe from gun violence. We need Supreme Court expansion to restore balance and sanity to the Court. Fortunately, Supreme Court expansion is clearly constitutional: Congress has done it multiple times throughout American history and we can do it again. Expanding the Supreme Court would be yet another way we can fight the war against senseless gun violence.

Rep. George Santos sent Rep. Jamie Raskin a letter hanking him for voting against expelling him from Congress. AdvertisementAdvertisementDemocratic Rep. Jamie Raskin copyedited Rep. George Santos' error-laden thank you letter for voting against expelling him from Congress. Raskin used a pen to correct the New York Republican's spelling and grammar, including pointing out that Santos misspelled "principles" as "principals." Twenty-four of Santos' fellow Republicans voted against him. Raskin explained in a statement that he didn't think Santos should be expelled without having been convicted of a crime.

One of the 31 Democrats who voted to spare George Santos explained why. Rep. Jeff Jackson wrote on Reddit that he's worried kicking Santos out before an ethics probe finishes would set a dangerous precedent. Rep. Jeff Jackson, a TikTok-savvy freshman lawmaker from North Carolina, wrote on Reddit that he didn't vote to spare Santos because he thinks Santos should remain in office. "The better precedent is to expel members only post-conviction or post-ethics investigation," Jackson wrote in a Reddit comment. In an unusual statement, the normally private House Ethics Committee said it would announce its next action by November 17.

While the trial played out in Colorado, Trump filed a lawsuit to shut down a similar case in Michigan. The 14th Amendment says US officials who take an oath to uphold the Constitution are disqualified from office if they “engaged in insurrection” or aided the country’s enemies. CNN —President Joe Biden is just as low in the White House’s internal polls as in any of the public ones. But while Biden advisers are dismissive of Rep. Dean Phillips’ primary challenge launched this week, they are also annoyed about it. Still, they remain confident that Biden is Democrats’ best option in 2024. Boyle told CNN this week that between the war in Israel and Gaza and the chaos of House Republicans electing their new speaker, he had not had “one conversation with anyone” about Phillips. Asked if he was worried about Phillips being a factor even back home in their state’s primary, Walz laughed.

His testimony sheds new light on how his office vetted the tip, and he disputed past Democratic claims that he “closed” the matter without recommending any further scrutiny. However, it doesn’t bolster the GOP narrative that Joe Biden or his son Hunter Biden were offered or accepted a bribe. The informant described his interactions with Mykola Zlochevsky, a Ukrainian oligarch and owner of the energy company Burisma, where Hunter Biden had served on the board. The saga of a once-trusted FBI informant bringing explosive but unverified claims about a presidential candidate is reminiscent of the Christopher Steele debacle in 2016. This time, the political roles are reversed: Republicans are championing the unproven bribery claims, as Democrats try to discredit the material.

Larnaca, hosting Cyprus's biggest airport, has seen a swell of expatriate Israelis, including reservists, using it as a transit point to get on the next available flight to Tel Aviv. It has also seen an influx from Israel of people who lost their homes, Chief Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin said. Raskin, who has been in Cyprus for more than 20 years, said there were about 2,500 Israelis in the Larnaca area at present, including traumatised children. California Sen. Laphonza Butler is defending Vice President Kamala Harris. Butler says Harris's detractors need to "cut the bullshit" and are being "disrespectful." AdvertisementAdvertisementIt remains unclear how long Laphonza Butler will be serving in the Senate, but one thing is clear: She's a staunch defender of Vice President Kamala Harris. In an interview with the New York Times before being appointed as California's new US senator, Butler said that detractors of Harris need to "cut the bullshit." Harris has long been dogged by criticism of her tenure as vice president, and she's argued that she's faced more media scrutiny than prior vice presidents.

The ousting of Kevin McCarthy has thrown the House back into chaos, and there's no clear successor. Some have speculated that a "compromise speaker" or "coalition government" could emerge. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe fall of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy at the hands of Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida has revived talk of something relatively uncommon in American politics — a "compromise speaker" or "bipartisan coalition" emerging to govern the increasingly ungovernable House of Representatives. As the dust settled after the vote to boot McCarthy on Tuesday, I spotted Republican Rep. Mike Lawler walking away from the Capitol. "The Texas example is that sometimes you vote for a Republican speaker, but then you get a third of the chairs," Casar told me on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawmakers who had been sitting in stunned silence gasped at the declaration: The office of speaker “is hereby declared vacant. ”For the first time ever, a House speaker had been voted out of the position, plunging Congress into a new degree of turmoil. “Chaos is Speaker McCarthy,” Gaetz said on the floor, suggesting a series of reforms could make Washington work better. “Shocking … just the finality of it," said Rep.
