LLY YTD mountain Eli Lilly's year-to-date stock performance. Investors are understandably cheering the results, sending Eli Lilly shares higher by more than 4%. "Eli Lilly today is beginning its next leg of going up," Jim Cramer said during Thursday's Morning Meeting . The most important line item was Mounjaro sales, which cleared Wall Street's high bar. Excluding that divestiture and the $387 million in Covid antibody sales in the year-ago quarter, Eli Lilly's sales grew 24% on an annual basis — a highly respectable figure.

It's true the operating margin is expected to contract a bit from Tuesday's results. Latin America sales fell 31% due to lower sales volume that was only partially offset by higher prices. Higher prices also aided profitability, despite the dual headwinds of lower volumes and an unfavorable product mix. The adjusted operating profit margin for the fourth quarter is expected to be lower versus the third quarter result. All told, we believe the operating margin consensus on Wall Street needs an upward revision.

The U.S. Department of Justice's case against Google Search went to trial last month , with the agency alleging Google unfairly used exclusive deals with mobile companies and browser firms to make its search engine the default for consumers. The Wall Street analyst estimated that Apple earns between $18 billion to $20 billion a year from Alphabet for making Google the default search engine on Apple products. Google has repeatedly rejected the DOJ's claims, arguing its search engine is simply a superior product relative to that of competitors. Google Search didn't become the dominant search engine because of a tie-in with Apple. ☆ Macy's warning of weak second-half demand hits retail sector shares

WASHINGTON, May 28 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden on Sunday finalized a budget agreement with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to suspend the $31.4 trillion debt ceiling until Jan. 1, 2025, and said the deal was ready to move to Congress for a vote. The deal, if approved, will prevent the U.S. government from defaulting on its debt and comes after weeks of heated negotiations between Biden and House Republicans. "I strongly urge both chambers to pass that agreement," Biden said, adding that he expected McCarthy to have the necessary votes for the deal to pass. The deal has drawn fire from hardline Republicans and progressive Democrats, but Biden and McCarthy are banking on getting enough votes from both sides. McCarthy dismissed threats of opposition within his own party, saying "over 95%" of House Republicans were "overwhelmingly excited" about the deal.
