CNN —Suspicious packages were sent this week to election offices in more than 20 states, leading to an FBI investigation, triggering evacuations and rattling staff, according to a CNN survey of state offices and Associated Press reporting. Karen Brinson Bell, the executive director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections, told CNN that that the battleground state was also targeted this week. Officials in Kansas and New York said in statements and interviews that, after the letters were noticed, they evacuated their offices. Postal Inspection Service are investigating a series of suspicious mailings sent to election officials in several states,” the FBI said in a statement. A source involved with a group that coordinates with election officials across the country told CNN the 2023 incident led many of these offices to step up precautions and safety measures, so they were better protected this time around.

Packaged foods, soda, chips, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and ice cream all fall under the category of ultraprocessed foods, which can include dozens of synthetic additives such as preservatives, emulsifiers and artificial dyes. For every 10% increase in the amount of a person’s diet made up of ultraprocessed foods, the team found that there was a 17% increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, the data showed. The scientists also found that reducing the amount of ultraprocessed food you are consuming can lower the risk, according to the study. “Ultra-processed foods are everywhere,” Dicken said via email. “We also know that increased body fat (from excess calories) increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

It's German semiconductor firm SUSS MicroTec , Jefferies said in a Sept. 17 report, calling it a "hidden gem" among European semiconductor firms. The investment bank initiated coverage of the stock at a buy rating and a target price of 76 euros ($84). The firm has "multi-layered exposure" to an advanced packaging technology called Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate, said Jefferies, explaining that it's used to make AI chips. While school meal prices vary throughout the country, a survey conducted by the School Nutrition Association, a trade organization, found that lunches typically cost about $2.83 for elementary school students, $3 for middle school students and $3.05 for high school students. The prices mean that the $100 million in transaction fees could have bought another 33 million or so school lunches or over 55 million school breakfasts. “Junk fees on school lunch should not exist. CNN —A phased reopening of Apalachee High School, the scene of this year’s deadliest school shooting, is scheduled to begin September 24. The area where the Apalachee High shooting unfolded, J Hall, will be closed for the rest of the school year after two students and two teachers were killed in the September 4 attack. “Everyone is processing or will process a tragedy differently,” said Michelle Kefford, principal at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Among its advice: ensure all physical damage is repaired and let staff members “feel comfortable in their building” before students return. “Thank you for your patience, understanding, and trust,” the Apalachee High administrators ended their letter.
