The logo of the National Australia Bank is displayed outside their headquarters building in central Sydney, Australia August 4, 2017. Earlier this year, a review by the country's corporate regulator found banks were falling short of meeting targets for moving First Nations people into low-fee accounts. NAB, the country's second biggest lender, said the new lending target highlights a surge of more than 140% based on its current lending of just A$413 million helping stimulate "sustainable business growth" among indigenous communities. "During the last two years, we have put the building blocks in place to better support our growing First Nations business customer base, from both a commercial and cultural perspective," said Andrew Irvine, NAB Group Executive Business and Private Banking. The bank plans to reduce the number of Postbank branches to around 300 from its current 550, the spokesperson said. Deutsche Bank's new head of private banking, Claudio de Sanctis, had first told the Financial Times about the closures in an interview earlier Monday. He told the FT that the bank's Deutsche-branded branches will also be scaled back, without giving more details.

"We can do that because we already spend 300 million euros a year for social causes," Messina said. Intesa has among core shareholders charitable banking foundations inspired by Catholic values, commonly referred to in Italy as "Catholic finance". "I hope to have the honour to continue to lead our company for many years with this philosophy," Messina said. At the helm since 2013, Messina has made the digital switch a key plank of his long-term strategy for Intesa, with a view to cutting costs and focusing resources on wealth management and insurance operations. Intesa this year launched both Isybank, a cloud-based, low-cost mobile bank to serve younger, mass-market clients, and Fideuram Direct, a digital wealth management service targeting younger private banking clients.

The facade of Argentina's Central Bank is pictured in the financial district of Buenos Aires, Argentina December 7, 2021. Argentina's central bank is struggling to keep the benchmark interest rate in line with inflation expectations, with a central bank poll of analysts later in the day forecasting inflation to end the year at more than 180%. Reuters Graphics Reuters GraphicsThe impacts of inflation has been worsened by the government's near-18% devaluation of the peso in mid-August, which coincided with the prior central bank hike, where it increased the interest rate from 97% to 118%. Milei, who is seeking to shut the central bank and dollarize the economy to tame inflation, recently recommended depositors avoid renewing bank holdings in pesos, arguing that the peso does not even serve as "excrement." The central bank's rate change on Thursday came after a last-minute decision not to raise the rate to 145% "following a leak," after Reuters reported the higher figure, citing a source close to the bank.

London CNN —Shares of UBS plunged Wednesday following a Bloomberg report that the Swiss bank faces a widening probe by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) over suspected compliance failures that allowed Russian clients to evade sanctions. The DOJ has briefed lawyers for UBS (UBS), which absorbed its smaller rival in June, about Credit Suisse’s alleged involvement in sanctions violations, according to Bloomberg. Authorities are also looking into possible compliance failures at UBS. In bailing out Credit Suisse, UBS has taken on a bank in terrible shape. Still, the parlous state of Credit Suisse presents an enormous challenge to UBS as it executes a first-of-its-kind merger of two global banks with combined assets of nearly $1.7 trillion.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo's trip to China last month had promised some economic and trade detente between the two superpowers now at loggerheads. And none of the 222 funds polled expected China economic growth to be any higher next year than this - mirroring a recent Reuters survey of domestic and overseas banks and investors. As these sorts of surveys go, there's an awful lot in there that could spell "peak gloom". Indeed, shorting China equities was deemed the second "most crowded trade" behind long exposure to supercharged Big Tech stocks. Even if the economy turns, political catalysts for a return to China may be slow in coming.

U.S. Treasury yields fell on Monday as investors remained focused on remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell that signaled the possibility of more interest rate hikes to tackle inflation. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield was down at 4.2217%. While Powell said the Fed could be flexible, he said it still has further to go to fight inflation. "Although inflation has moved down from its peak — a welcome development — it remains too high," Powell said in prepared remarks. Intesa lifts profit outlook after record first-half

Intesa posted a 2.27 billion euro net profit for April-June, above a Reuters analyst consensus of 1.82 billion euros ($2 billion), with lower than expected loan loss provision also helping to offset rising costs. Intesa now sees its full year profit "well above" a previous forecast of 7 billion euros, with further growth projected in 2024 and 2025. Under the strategy unveiled in February last year Intesa had originally aimed for a 6.5 billion euro 2025 net profit. Intesa expects to reap more than 13.5 billion euros in 2023 from its net interest margin, and grow it further in 2024 and 2025. "(Intesa's) '24/'25 profit guide is supported by growing net interest income, recovery in commissions, cost reduction and low cost of risk," Jefferies said.

JPMorgan's private bank has a policy to "discourage" large cash deposits and spending. HONG KONG, July 19 (Reuters) - Consolidation within the global wealth management sector will speed up while managers continue to face regulatory challenges, a report based on a global survey by Citigroup showed. As many as 69% of the almost 170 participants across wealth management and private banking industries agreed that industry consolidation will continue to accelerate, the report, dated July 18 but not made public earlier, said. Large wealth providers will be able to sell a wider range of products and services across different wealth tiers, and would likely benefit the most from the consolidation by winning a larger market share, the Citigroup's "Disruption and Transformation in Wealth" report added. Smaller providers will have to move beyond passive products and further differentiate themselves with technologies, said the report. Survey respondents also laid out other factors like the ongoing uncertainty in the global macroeconomic, geopolitical and regulatory environment, which has increased business costs and exacerbated margin pressures for wealth managers, said the report.
